In this pack you should find sufficient information to enable you to settle into the area, find out about the facilities on offer, and details of many of the clubs and societies. If specific information about your particular interest or need is not shown, then pop into the Town Hall Information Point and ask there. If they don't know the answer, they usually know someone who does! The Parish Council produces a quarterly Newsletter which is available from the Town Hall or the Post Office. Chapel is a small friendly town with a long history, in a beautiful location, almost surrounded by the Peak District National Park. It's about 800 feet above sea level, and its neighbour, Dove Holes, is about 1000 feet above, so while the weather can be sometimes wild, on good days its situation is magnificent. The Parish Council takes pride in maintaining the facilities it directly controls, and ensures that as far as possible, the other Councils who provide many of the local services - High Peak Borough Council (HPBC) and Derbyshire County Council (DCC) also serve the area well.

Unfortunately it was not found possible to obtain sufficient MS. from the High Peak without delaying indefinitely the issue of the volume, already overdue. The latter third of the book, therefore, has been filled with the important Register of Repton, the MS. of which had been ready for some time. The Repton abstracts were made by Mr. Simpson and Mr. E. B. Smith ; those of Chapel-en-le-Frith, which contain so many entries of old-established Peak families as to be of exceptional interest to genealogists, were done by of Fairfield Mr. W.     Chinley Buxworth and Brownside Community Association Community Vision 2014 Community Vision – Final Report Introduction The ‘Community Vision’ consultation took place in the Derbyshire parish of Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside during the Autumn of 2014. This consultation was initiated by Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside Community Association. A Parish Plan was developed 10 years ago: this study is a ‘10 years on’ follow up to look at current community services and leisure activities, how these could be improved and what else is needed or desirable. The consultation was made possible thanks to a grant from Social Investment Business. Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside parish is … The parish of Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside is situated in the High Peak borough in the north west of Derbyshire. It also lies within the Peak District National Park area. The parish comprises two villages, Chinley and Buxworth, and a number of hamlets and isolated farmsteads. According to the 2011 Census it then had a population of 2796. In the Borough Council’s Local Plan Chinley is described as a ‘large’ village and Buxworth as a ‘small’ one. There are also other hamlets in the Blackbrook valley which lie outside the parish boundary but due to the geographical relief regard themselves as part of this community, for example Whitehough. With Chinley’s population almost three times that of Buxworth is forms a natural service centre for the area. The parish as a whole has Index of Multiple Deprivation scores which are average or better though this hides isolated pockets of deprivation. The parish is off the beaten track: a B road forms the axis of the parish, winding its way for nearly 3 miles along the north side of the Blackbrook Valley from the A6 (Buxton – Stockport) to the A624 (Chapel en le Frith – Glossop).

    DESIGN, ACCESS & HERITAGE STATEMENT Remedial Works to Chapel Milton Viaduct (West Span) February 2017 Ref: TP/LNW/2017/011 n Introduction 1. This statement provides an outline of the design and access principles adopted by the proposed masonry and drainage works required to the Grade II listed Chapel Milton Viaduct (West Span). 2. The ‘proposals’ section below explains the works in further detail, setting out the rationale and justification for the scheme. This will also include analysis of the proposals’ heritage implications to satisfy the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework and relevant local planning policy. Due regard is also given the setting of the viaduct, within Chapel Milton Conservation Area. 3. It should be noted that the proposals represent Permitted Development under Part 8, Class A of the General Permitted Development Order and as such no separate application for planning permission will be required. 4. Works are required to maintain the structure in safe, operational use. Site Location and Context 5. The viaduct straddles the Black Brook valley, in the hamlet of Chapel Milton. A bifurcated double viaduct structure diverges with curves to the west and east, carrying the railway from the south to link the main line between Sheffield and Manchester. Designed by Barlow and Campion, the western section of the viaduct was constructed in c.1867, with the eastern section arriving later in c.1890. View from Hayfield Road 6. The triangular site bound by the two viaduct arcades and the northern Sheffield- Manchester railway line contains Chinley Independent Chapel and Sunday School, which is located on The Wash Road which runs east-west under the viaduct.

Editor RON WESTON (744838) 1 From the Editor The East Midlands Industrial Archaeology Conference held at New Mills Sixth Form Centre on 10th May, was not, of course, one of our Society s events: but it might just as well have been. The day was at- tested a great success and from our point-of-view did much to pro- mote the town as a site of significant importance to industrial archaeology. Well over a hundred people attended, some from as far afield as Lincoln and Northampton, together with quite a few of our members. All three speakers, Derek Brumhead. Roger Bryant and Ron Weston. are members of the Society, and the same personnel, together with John Humphries conducted groups of visitors through the Torrs in the afternoon. Other members devoted their time to sell- ing the Society’s publications, including our latest title. "New Mills - a look back at its Industrial Heritage." which was brought out to coin- cide with the date of the conference. Everyone speaks well of this attractive volume: but, so far, sales have been rather disappointing. The book cost a great deal to produce and it would not have been possible to do so without a generous loan from our Town Council, one that we shall have to repay in the not-too-distant future.
