    BANK OF ALBANIA 1 OUR NATIONAL CURRENCY IN BRIEF The history of our national currency starts concurrently with the creation of the National Bank of Albania, established on 2 September 1925. The Bank was created upon the signing of the convention between an Italian financial group led by Mario Alberti and the government of Ahmet Zogu. The convention defined that the bank, apart from lending, had the exclusive right to issue legal tender banknotes, gold and other metal coins for payments in Albania. This may be called the first currency issuing national institution, but our history shows that the coins had first been struck since IV century B.C., in the Illyrian cities of Dyrrachium (Durrës) and Apollonia (Pojan near Fier). Albania had a central bank for the first time in 1913, following the agreement of the Government of Ismail Qemali with Karol Pitner and Oskar Pollak, representatives of the Austro-Hungarian banking group Weiner Bank Verein, as well as with Pietro Fenolio and Guido Ansbaher, representatives of the Italian banking group Banca Commerciale Italiana. This institution was short lived, due to the political instability of the time and the beginning of World War I. When the bank was created in 1925, many currencies from different countries were circulating in Albania, thus the National Bank of Albania undertook measures to substitute them with a single Albanian currency. The golden frang, with its subunits (lek and cents, where 1 frang was equal to 5 lek and 100 cent) and its multiples 5, 20 and 100 golden frang was chosen as the currency of Albania.

The main theory used is the theory of the push and pull factor. The oppression of women in dominantly male societies is defined as a push factor. And opportunities for self-empowerment in more equal societies are defined as a pull factor. In Albania men are the ones who become the head of the household and only men are allowed to own any property. According to the Kanun any women that act in any way as a dishonourable person should be punished or even should pay with her blood. In male dominated societies, such as Albania, there a only few opportunities for women to climb the ladder in the labour market. It makes it very hard for women to provide for themselves and their families financially. Escape high levels of gender inequality is defined as an important reason for Albanian women to migrate. After the fall of the communist regime in the 90’s, the national borders opened up and migration from Albania has increased tremendously. Some women escape male dominant society by migrating to regions with relatively more equality in gender relations.

What drives high female cabinet representation globally – The impact of women’s parliamentary representation over time and their status in national cabinets C-uppsats i statsvetenskap vid Mittuniversitetet, HT-VT 2020-21 Victor Spang Arthursson Abstract The aim of this study is to contribute to previous research by improving the time perspective when investigating what impact female parliamentary inclusion has on the levels of female ministers in national cabinets globally. In detail, it focuses on the impact a considerable level of women’s parliamentary representation over time and their status in national cabinets. Politicians’ experience and seniority is built up over time, and the hypothesis put forward is that when heads of states select their cabinet members the power exercised by ever larger numbers and more experienced women visible within parliaments will be difficult to ignore when selecting candidates for cabinet appointments. Using data from 2000 to 2019, this article shows that the longer parliaments have had considerable levels of female parliamentarians the more women will have minister positions. It also shows that there are differences between regions globally, with parts of Asia having a particularly weak performance. This article further demonstrates the importance of including a time aspect when investigating parameters that might need time before their impact is visible, and that testing against momentary data values risks producing inconsistent results. A brainstorming meeting on Reconstruction and Regional Co-operation in the Balkans was held in Vouliagmeni on 8-10 July 1999, covering the issues of security, democratisation, economic reconstruction and the role of civil society. It was attended by academics and policy makers from all the countries in the region, from a number of EU countries, from the European Commission, the USA and Russia. Based on ideas and discussions generated at this meeting, a policy paper on Balkan Reconstruction and European Integration was the product of a collaborative effort by the two LSE institutes and the wiiw. The paper was presented at a follow-up meeting on Reconstruction and Integration in Southeast Europe in Vienna on 12-13 November 1999, which focused on the economic aspects of the process of reconstruction in the Balkans. It is this policy paper that became the very first Working Paper of the wiiw Balkan Observatory Working Papers series. His father, Paul Wehrli, was secretary for the Zurich Theatre and also a writer. Encouraged by his father to respect and appreciate the arts, the young Peter Wehrli enthusiastically rushed through homework assignments in order to attend as many theater performances as possible. Wehrli later studied Art History and German Studies at the universities of Zurich and Paris. As a student, he used to frequent the Café Odeon in downtown Zurich, where many famous intellectuals and artists used to meet.

In size it is similar to Belgium, Burundi or Massachusetts. It became independent from the Ottoman Empire in 1912 with international boundaries little different from today. Geographical names policy Albanian names are written in Roman script. Place names should be taken from official Albanian- language sources and all diacritical marks should be retained. Mapping can be found on Albania’s State Authority for Geospatial Information (ASIG) Geoportal. Nouns in Albanian may be in the definite or indefinite grammatical forms, which usually makes a minor difference to the end of the word. Large-scale maps produced during the late Communist era (1970s and 1980s) typically used the definite forms, but the practice in Albania now is to use the indefinite form, except in certain instances where the definite is required for grammatical reasons. PCGN advice is to follow this style, reflecting the forms as shown on current official Albanian cartographic products. Specifically, the indefinite form is used for all populated place names, short-form administrative division names and all physical feature names which do not include a generic term.
