WOODSIDE PRIORY School Profile 2020-21 Located in Portola Valley, California, Woodside Priory School is a Catholic Benedictine, independent, co-educational, college preparatory school. Our mission is to assist students in becoming lifelong learners and stewards who will productively serve a world in need of their gifts. Woodside Priory’s educational experience is centered around the values of individuality, community, integrity, hospitality, and spirituality. In pursuit of these values, teachers encourage collaboration, creativity, communication, critical thinking, and resilience through seeking knowledge and problem-solving. The academic program, led by the monastic and lay faculty, is supplemented with visual and performing arts, athletics, community service, and interest-driven co-curricular activities. What’s New at Priory Woodside Priory’s Response to COVID-19 and California Wildfires: In mid-March, Priory pivoted to virtual distance learning for the rest of the school year. Our synchronous and asynchronous virtual curriculum maintained the rigor and scholarship long associated with our school. To acknowledge the different environments and levels of stress our students endured, we offered students the ability to choose to take their Spring 2020 courses with credit/no credit or with standard letter grades. Committed to equity and access, we wanted to ensure that no students were unduly penalized for those situations. Our Fall 2020 semester will be completely virtual. Our international students have the option to learn asynchronously from their home countries, while the rest of our student body attends their classes synchronously for full days of instruction (use the following link to see our distance learning schedule here or copy and paste this URL: https://www.prioryca.org/student-life/distance-learning). Please note that in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, our community has been affected also by the wildfires in Northern California. Some of our families have had to evacuate from their homes, and all of us have endured a decrease in air quality, creating more stress in our community. With the continuous cancellations by the College Board and ACT since March 2020, our students have not had access to standardized testing. As of August, the Woodside Priory is accredited by: majority of our seniors have not taken either the SAT or ACT. We plan to offer each test on our campus in October. Therefore, the test scores listed on our profile are California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) from our previous two graduated classes. Many of these clubs and activities are unfortunately not active during distance learning this semester. However, we Woodside Priory Memberships: have developed after school enrichment programs for our students to gather in person or virtually, engaging in fun and creative activities, such as hiking, Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools, gardening, or cooking.
