Stream sediment sampling – 2. Prospecting – 3. Soil sampling – 4. Deep Overburden Sampling § 5. Geophysics – Airborne geophysical surveys (e.g. magnetics) – Ground geophysics (e.g. magnetics, IP lines) § 7. Trenching (requires Permitted Development) § 8. Drilling (requires Permitted Development) 9 Data Compilation § Government Surveys – Tellus survey carried out by Geological Survey of Northern Ireland in conjunction with the Department for the Economy (then DETI) from 2004 – 2006; data available from 2007 – Stream sediment sampling, soil sampling, and airborne geophysical surveys across Northern Ireland § Previous Operators Page 11 – All exploration activities are reported to the Department for the Economy annually – After a period of 5 years (max 10 years), results of work carried out by previous operators is available to current licence holders § Data Compilation – Gather all available data and digitise into a GIS – Verify as much of the data as possible with field visits, repeat samples, official reports, etc. – Establish initial prospects based on historic work § Environmental Assessment – Assess local area for sensitivities based on publicly available NIEA designations 10 Geochemical Analysis Undertaken by Dalradian § The following elements are analysed for: – Precious Metals: Au, Ag – Platinum Group Metals: Pd, Pt Page 12 – Base Metals: Cu, Ni, Pb, Sn, Zn – EU Critical Metals: Sb, Be, Co, Ga, Ge, In, La, Mg, Nb , Ta, Th, U, W – Other Elements: Al, A, B, Ba, Bi, Ca, Cd, Ce, Cr, Cs, Fe, Hf, Hg, K, Li, Mn, Mo, Na, P, Rb, Re, S, Sc, Se, Sr, Te, Ti, Tl, V, Y, Zr 11 1. Stream Sediment Sampling § Samples up to 1.5 kg of fine sediment are collected from first, second, and third order streams § Sediment is dug from the bottom of the stream and placed into a sieve over a bucket § The material is sieved to below 0.841 mm and excess coarse material returned to the stream Page 13 § Water is drained off the sample and the sediment is placed in a labelled bag, described, and sent to a lab for analysis § A total of 53 elements analysed for, including Ag, As, Au, Ba, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, Pt and Zn 12 2. Prospecting § Rock samples of about 1.5 kg in weight are hammered or broken off an outcrop or float (rock where original location is unknown) Page 14 § The rock is bagged, described, labelled with a sample ID, and sent to a lab for analysis § 34 elements analysed for including Ag, As, Au, Ba, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn § Results are plotted on a licence map in a GIS 13 3. Soil Sampling § Carried out under DfE prospecting licence and notified to DfE 14 days prior to commencement (28 days in vicinity of SAC) § Landowner permissions acquired before commencing sampling Page 15 § Regional scale sampling on grid spacing of 200 m or more; local scale sampling on grid spacing less than 200 m § Samples of till collected from below top soil using a hand held auger; 500 – 750 g of till from a depth of 30 – 250 cm § Excess material replaced in the hole § Samples are bagged, described, and dispatched to a lab for analysis § A total of 53 elements analysed for, including Ag, As, Au, Ba, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, Pt, and Zn 14 4.
