After each performance, they would perform as a duo in pizza parlors, coffee bars, and night clubs quickly gaining a reputation for great harmonies and for original songs that Graham was constantly writing. With a demo cassette of two songs (“Love and Other Bruises” and “If You Knew Me”) in hand, they shopped it to every record label in Sydney. CBS Records admired their style and signed them, the duo made a single in one afternoon which shot to #1 on the national charts. From there, Air Supply was born. The duo immediately began touring, opening for Rod Stewart across Australia and throughout North America. They return to Australia after the tour and made the album Life Support, which included the hit single “Lost in Love.” The single went Top 10 in Australia and found its way to the desk of music industry executive Clive Davis. Clive immediately signed them to Arista Records and, in 1980, “Lost in Love” became the fastest-selling single in the world. The follow-up single “All Out of Love” went up the charts even quicker. Seven top 5 singles later, Air Supply had equaled The Beatles’ run of consecutive top-five singles. The all-inclusive mega-resort, which has hosted Shakira, Jon Secada, Enrique Iglesias and Usher, is to feature performances by "SNL" comics Jon Lovitz, Chris Katten and Tim Meadows on Saturday and Sunday. Air Supply guitarist Graham Russell and lead vocalist and songwriter Russell Hitchcock are to appear March 22 and 23. Resort guests receive complimentary tickets to the shows. Noir, the resort's new $2-million nightclub, was conceived by French designer Francois Frossard and inspired by the film “Tron." The club's onyx tone is offset by alabaster sofas and deep-cushioned booths. "Every year, Moon Palace strives to provide our hotel guests with the ultimate all-inclusive experience," said Gibran Chapur, executive vice president of Palace Resorts. "There is something for everyone at Moon Palace, from our new wave simulator to our brand new nightclub." Dallas, TX HOW THIS ALLSTARTED HOW I GOT INTO THE “BUSINESS” I had toured with Air Supply for about six years (two of those years with Doug Goldstein, who would later become the manager for Guns N’ Roses). But I was pretty damn lucky to get in with Air Supply. In fact, I never even had to fill out an application! It was July 1983. I had just graduated col- lege—State University of New York at Oswego. I was a business major with a theater minor, but I was very involved in theater. I had starred in numerous college productions in 1my junior and senior years. Acting is in my blood forever. My first job out of college was at the Westbury Music Fair in Long Island. Westbury Music Fair was a 3,000-seat, in-the- round venue that housed plays and intimate concerts. I was a backstage runner, a gopher, the bottom man on the totem pole. When acts came into town, I would pick them up at the airport. Or I would pick them up at their hotel, and bring them to the gig 1 2 WELCOME TO MY JUNGLE for sound check. And I always had to make sure they had what they needed backstage. I only held this job for about a month, because I was about to meet someone who would change my life. One of the shows that came to Westbury while I was there was the well-known musical The Sound of Music.
