Vodeni tokovi pripadaju iskljuCivo rijeksma ponomicama. Kompleksi mjesane cmogoriene i bje1ogoriene sume pokrivaju dijelove Velebita, Lieke Plje sivice i Kremana. Rok, Lovinac, Rieice, Donji Lapac, Mazin i Bruvno. NajveCi dio Lickog sredogor;a do sada nije geo loski obradivan. U periodu do 1. Svjetskog rata znacajniji su radovi R. Schubert-a, E. Lange-a, F. Koch-a i M. Salopeka. Geolosko istrazivanje dalmatinskog dijela Velebita izvdio je R. Schubert (1909). Njegova karta Medak-Sv. Rok. Njegova kart a s tumacem zahvaca sire podrucje jugozapadnog dijela lista Udbina. Misljenje 0 jednostavnoj, autohtonoj gradi Velebita zastupa i M. Salopek (1914) poslije spo menutih radova R. Schubert-a i F. Koch-a. U istom radu strukturni polozaj dijela naslaga u podrucju Paklenice Simie rje sava navlacenjem. 171 glinenih skriljavaca okolice Raduca F. Nemec (1936) odredio je mnoge vrste Pteridopyta i Puridosptrme, Cime je zakljucio da ovi sedimenti pripadaju gornjem karbonu. J. Poljak (1940) odredio je hetetide iz titonskih

HRVATSKIDane Pejnović – GEOGRAFSKI Lika: demographic developmentGLASNIK under 66/2, peripheral 23 – 46 conditions (2004.) UDC 911.3:314 (497.5–3 Lika) Original Scientifi c Paper Izvorni znanstveni članak Lika: Demographic Development under Peripheral Conditions Dane Pejnović Lika is the most notable example of a periphery and also the most problematic region in Croatia. This work represents research into the region’s demographic development under the conditions of Croatia’s polarized development up to the beginning of the 1990s and the wartime and postwar events during the last intercensus period. The spatial scheme of analysis adheres to the sub-regions and contemporary local government units. The results show that Lika and all of its sub-regions were beset by demographic devastation already during the 1980s. In the current period, it is characterized by extremely inauspicious demographic features, which seriously brings into question the possibility of revitalizing this region. Key words: Lika, periphery, regional development, demographic development, migration balance, natural population trends, depopulation Lika: demografski razvoj u uvjetima periferije Lika je najizrazitiji primjer periferije i najveće problemsko područje Hrvatske. U radu je istražen demografski razvoj regije u uvjetima polariziranog razvoja Hrvatske do početka 1990-ih godina te ratnih zbivanja i poraća u posljednjem međupopisnom razdoblju. Prostornu shemu analize čine subregije i suvremene jedinice lokalne samouprave.

Two and one-half years later, in December 1995, Deny Flight officially ended after an almost continuous 970-day aerial presence constituting over 100,000 aircraft sorties. In that time, NATO aircraft dropped more than 3,000 bombs while participating in combat operations for the first time in alliance history. Deny Flight’s initial mission was to enforce a UN Security Council mandated no-fly zone over Bosnia. This mission expanded in the ensuing months to include close air support when requested for UN protection forces (UNPROFOR) on the ground and to deter Serb aggression against six UN-designated safe areas.

  • Operation Storm: Ending Humanitarian Disaster and Genocide in Southeastern Europe
International Journal of Social Sciences Vol. X, No. 1 / 2021 DOI: 10.52950/SS.2021.10.1.003 OPERATION STORM: ENDING HUMANITARIAN DISASTER AND GENOCIDE IN SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE DOROTHY S. MCCLELLAN, NIKOLA KNEZ Abstract: Operation Storm was the single-most decisive battle of the Croatian War for Independence (1991-1995). Launched by the Republic of Croatia in August 1995, it was the largest European land battle since the Second World War. Outnumbered, outgunned, but not outmaneuvered, this tiny new democracy prevailed in a David versus Goliath encounter, a moral as well as military victory. Storm ended a massive humanitarian disaster and genocide. It led to the liberation of one third of Croatian territory, and made possible the Dayton Agreement that brought peace to the region. Based on interviews conducted with the American Ambassador to Croatia during the war years, military and political principals in the battle, noted scholars, security and intelligence agency officials, humanitarian leaders and journalists, this social scientific qualitative study examines the political and historical origins of the war and its aftermath. The article documents the events leading up to the war and surrounding this extraordinary military operation, providing strategic and political insights into the need for cooperation between democratic allies. Keywords: war, humanitarian disaster, genocide, Yugoslavia, Croatian War for Independence, Balkans, democracy, human rights, rights, Greater Serbia, Ambassador Peter Galbraith, Hague Tribunal, Operation Storm JEL Classification: D74, K33, K42 Authors: DOROTHY S.
