This project is to discover information relating to the history and sinking of the schooner Walpas (MADU Ref. 415) 15 miles WNW of Bardsey Island, Caernarfonshire on April 27 1918. The Walpas was a 3-masted schooner build in Finland in 1901. From newspaper articles the Walpas sailed worldwide to Brazil, North America, South Africa and Europe. In April 1918 while sailing from Fleetwood Lancashire to Cadiz Spain with a cargo of pitch, the Walpas was fired upon and sunk by the German U-boat U-91.
