Tips for you Rehearsal Dinner (in Ireland) In Ireland : Rehearsal Dinners are not standard in Ireland in fact many couples don't have an event the night before the wedding. However thanks to all of the amazing destination weddings we have organized for couples from the USA in Ireland, lots of venues are now familiar with a rehearsal dinner & will most likely ask you when you are booking your wedding reception if you would like options to consider. Hosts: Traditionally hosted by the parents of the groom but now can be hosted by the couple or jointly by both sets of parents. Budget: Create a budget for the dinner As your wedding planners we will incorporate this cost into your overall wedding budget. Guest list: While there are no rules the traditional rule of thumb was at least all “out of town” guests are invited. However that will depend on the budget & the hosts. If budget permits particularly as you are having a destination wedding you might decide to invite all guests & have it as a Welcome Party. Style: The formality is at the discretion of the hosts but whatever happens ensure not to overshadow the wedding day! If you are having a formal wedding you might opt for casual , more relaxed rehearsal dinner or you may decide to have it formal as a sneak peek of the wedding day . Format: • Ceremony Rehearsal attended by wedding party /parents • Discreet distribution of wedding party gifts by the bride & groom • Great opportunity for a Meet & Greet with all of your guests. • Opportunity to formally & informally welcome guests to your very special celebration. • Toasts usually commence with the host • Ideal time to give a reminder of the itinerary for the wedding day with particular emphasis on transportation & timings. Shannon, Ireland Destination Guide Overview of Shannon The River Shannon and the Shannon region of Ireland are famous for their beauty, but the city bearing the same name is largely overlooked by tourists. Shannon was a 'planned' town, built in the 1960s as a satellite to nearby Limerick. For this reason, the city lacks the old-world charm of many Irish towns. However, Shannon makes a convenient stop on any tour of the country due to its airport, the second largest in Ireland. Because of its location, Shannon is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful County Clare, which includes famous attractions like Bunratty Castle, the Burren Caherconnell Stone Fort, Craggaunowen Castle, the famous Blarney Stone, and Dromoland Castle. Nature lovers will find plenty of spectacular landscapes to explore, including Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, and the beaches of Spanish Point. Shannon is also a good starting point for walking tours of Dingle and the Ring of Kerry, or cruises on the river itself. Dolphin watching is a popular activity from Carrigaholt pier, while Loop Head peninsula is home to a large puffin colony. While the town of Shannon isn't as cosmopolitan as larger cities like Dublin or Galway, it has a good selection of restaurants and bars, and a friendly atmosphere that will make any traveller feel welcome. Key Facts Language: English is the principal language, although a minority of people speak Irish (Gaelic). Passport/Visa: All foreign passengers to Ireland must be able to show proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay in the country. Additionally, passengers should hold return/onward tickets, and the necessary travel documentation for their next destination, as immigration officers might demand that they demonstrate proof of their intention to leave Ireland.

SURVEY OF THE McINERNEY SEPT OF THOMOND Luke McInerney, M.A. This survey gives an historical account of the McInerney sept of Clann Chuiléin, the eastern division of County Clare. The survey investigates the genealogical origins of the McInerneys in twelfth century Thomond as an offshoot of the ruling McNamaras. The origins of the McInerneys as an airchinneach family of east Clare is explored and the survey looks at the history of the sept up to the confiscation of the sept’s lands in the mid-seventeenth century and their scattering into Limerick and Tipperary during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The survey attempts to give an overview of the McInerney family of Thomond and to redress the silence in many histories of County Clare about the family and its origins. It is a curious tenet of history that the McInerneys were almost totally dispossessed of their ancient lands, so it is not surprising that they escaped the historian’s pen. I intend for this survey to shed light on their history both before and after the collapse of the Gaelic order. Research indicates that the McInerneys – Clann an Oirchinnigh – of Thomond have been associated with their powerful overlords, the McNamaras (Mac Con Mara), since the twelfth century. It was from the main dynastic branch of the McNamaras that the progenitor of the McInerney sept, Donnchadha Mac Con Mara, originated. As a junior sept – or sliocht – the McInerneys retained an important position at the local level within the McNamara polity of Clann Chuiléin and their role as minor gentry found them scribed alongside the powerful Dromoland O’Briens in land and rental documents beyond the collapse of the Gaelic order into the eighteenth century.
