La présente étude s’est déroulée dans la Nouvelle Aire protégée d’Antrema (Cr Katsepy-Région Boeny-Province Mahajanga) du 03 au 23 décembre 2016. Les objectifs du présent travail sont : d’estimer la densité de Lepilemur aeeclis et de Microcebus murinus et de connaître le régime alimentaire de Lepilemur aeeclis. Les méthodes « Focal animal sampling » et « Line transect Distance Sampling » ont été utilisées pour atteindre ces objectifs. La densité de Lepilemur aeeclis est 342,46 individus/ km2 à Ampapamena et celle de Microcebus murinus est 419,12 individus/ km2 à Antrema et à Ampapamena. Au total 19 espèces de plantes sont consommées par Lepilemur aeeclis. Les feuilles constituent 100 % de la nourriture de cette espèce. Elle exploite surtout les Niveaux 3 (2 à 5 m) et 4 (5 à 10 m) des strates de la forêt. Sept espèces d’arbres ont été utilisées comme gîte diurne par Lepilemur aeeclis. Les gîtes diurnes sont situés à une hauteur allant de trois à sept mètres et les diamètres à hauteur de poitrine de ces arbres sont supérieurs à 20 cm. Le fait que Lepilemur aeeclis est une espèce de Lémuriens exclusivement folivore ne prétend pas qu’elle ne consomme que des feuilles, il est fort probable que sa diète soit constituée d’autres parties de plante. La compréhension de l’utilisation des strates par Lepilemur aeeclis présente encore des lacunes, ce qui nécessite des études supplémentaires. The present study was carried out in the New Protected Area of Antrema (Cr Katsepy- Boeny Region- Province of Mahajanga) from 03 to 23 december 2016. The objectives of the present work are : to estimate the density of Microcebus murinus and Lepilemur aeeclis, and to determine the diet of Lepilemur aeeclis. The "Focal animal sampling" and "Line transect Distance Sampling" methods were used to reach these objectives. The density of Lepilemur aeeclis is 342,46 individuals / km2 at Ampapamena and for Microcebus murinus, it is 419,12 individuals / km2 at Antrema and Ampapamena. A total of 19 plant species are consumed by Lepilemur aeeclis. The leaves are 100% of the food of this species. It mainly exploits the levels 3 (2 to 5 m) and 4 (5 to 10 m) of the forest’s strata. Seven tree species were used as diurnal shelter by Lepilemur aeeclis. The diurnal shelters are located at a height ranging from three to seven meters and the diameter at breast height of these trees are upper to 20 cm. Lepilemur aeeclis is a folivorous lemur but its diet may be containing other plant parts. Strata used by Lepilemur aeeclis is still poorly understood, which requires further studies. With more than 250 species, the Mantellidae is the most species-rich family of frogs in Madagascar. These frogs are highly diversified in morphology, ecology and natural history. Based on a molecular phylogeny of 248 mantellids, we here examine the distribution of three characters reflecting the diversity of eye colouration and two characters of head colouration along the mantellid tree, and their correlation with the general ecology and habitat use of these frogs. We use Bayesian stochastic character mapping, character association tests and concentrated changes tests of correlated evolu- tion of these variables. We confirm previously formulated hypotheses of eye colour pattern being significantly correlated with ecology and habits, with three main character associations: many tree frogs of the genus Boophis have a bright col- oured iris, often with annular elements and a blue-coloured iris periphery (sclera); terrestrial leaf-litter dwellers have an iris horizontally divided into an upper light and lower dark part; and diurnal, terrestrial and aposematic Mantella frogs have a uniformly black iris.

PO Wits, 2050, Gauteng, South Africa ABSTRACT.—The Colubroidea includes all venomous and some nonvenomous snakes, many of which have extraordinary dental morphology and functional capabilities. It has been proposed that the ancestral condition of the Colubroidea is venomous with tubular fangs. The venom system includes the production of venomous secretions by labial glands in the mouth and usually includes fangs for effective delivery of venom. Despite significant research on the evolution of the venom system in snakes, limited research exists on the driving forces for different fang and dental morphology at a broader phylogenetic scale. We assessed the patterns of fang and dental condition in the Lamprophiidae, a speciose family of advanced snakes within the Colubroidea, and we related fang and dental condition to diet. The Lamprophiidae is the only snake family that includes front-fanged, rear-fanged, and fangless species. We produced an ancestral reconstruction for the family and investigated the pattern of diet and fangs within the clade. We concluded that the ancestral lamprophiid was most likely rear-fanged and that the shift in dental morphology was associated with changes in diet. This pattern indicates that fang loss, and probably venom loss, has occurred multiple times within the Lamprophiidae.

It consists of species specialized to breeding in brooks (48 species) and ponds (10 species). We reconstructed the phylogeny of Boophis using 16S ribosomal DNA sequences (558 bp) from 27 species. Brook-breeders were monophyletic and probably derived from an ancestral pond-breeding lineage. Pond-breeders were paraphyletic. The disparity in diversification among pond-breeders and brook-breeders was notable among endemic Malagasy frogs, although it was not significant when considering Boophis alone. Sibling species which have different advertisement calls but are virtually indistinguishable by morphology were common among brook-breeders; genetic divergence between these species was high (modal 8% total pairwise divergence). Substitution rates in brook-breeding species were significantly higher than in pond-breeders. Speciation of pond-breeders may be hindered by their usually more synchronous reproduction and a higher vagility which enhances gene flow, while a higher potential of spatial segregation and speciation may exist along brooks.
