Dear Fellow Jersey Members and Breeders,

The past twelve months have passed by quickly. The weather has been kind to many of us, with rain being received now. We can do without the devastating storms that many areas have received.

What a great honour it is to be president in the year that the Pure Jersey Breeders Association celebrates its 25th Anniversary. I would like to thank the members, past and present, for the support of the dinner and the book. Special thanks go to the people that helped plan and organise the book and dinner. It was great to see and speak to past and present members at the dinner.

It is with great pleasure that I write this message with many happenings regarding our association over the past 12 months. We started with the Feature Show in Nurmurkah with breeders making the commitment to attend and make it a great show. We held two On Farm Challenges, one in Victoria and the other in Queensland, both which was sponsored by Daviesway. It is great to see Daviesway still sponsoring our On Farm Challenges year after year. It is pleasing to see a large number of entries in these events by all breeders.

The 2015 Queensland Feature Show was held in Maleny, entries were slightly down this year but the quality of the cattle being shown were still of high standards. I would like to thank all our sponsors and members for devoting their time to make all these events a huge success. The dedication and devotion that everyone displays for the Pure Jersey breed is to say the least is amazing. I would like to thank all members that take the time to classify their cattle, and thank the classifiers that take the time to do this job.

I would like to thank the committee members for their support and assistance that I have been given over the last 12 months.

I would like to wish the committee all the success in the next 12 months.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year.

Many Thanks

Warren Davis

The Jersey Cow By scientific investigation it has been proven that on a given amount of feed, the Jersey cow is capable of pro- ducing as large a yield of butterfat and protein and still maintain her body upkeep than any other breed. The Jersey cow must have the correct “Dairy temperament” she must have the “will to give”. The quality of Dairy temperament in some cows is so great that if they do not receive adequate food for both body requirements and milk production, they will draw on their reserves until they are skin and bone, giving their uttermost.

It was a real pleasure to see such a high standard of top quality jersey cows competing in will supported classes.

The Senior Best Udder class was outstanding with the 10 placings I selected displaying wonderful udders from top to bot- tom, with very little between placings. The first 4 placings did have an advantage over the minor placings that could have been swapped around without any problem. The young cow that won this class displayed a near perfect udder. Her udder had capacity great attachment and width with lovely teat placement. She as a 3 year old went on to win the Senior Cham- pion cow displaying maturity and lovely balance and quality. Very nice head and neck, sharp clean bone, very strong top line with lengthy body displaying width and depth of ribbing. A wedge shape cow.

My Reserve Champion from the age class was a very beautiful capacious cow with an outstanding udder that carries lots of milk. I loved her rear udder which I thought was near perfect.

Honourable mention cow was also top class, an upstanding clean boned cow with very strong top line and udder nicely at- tached. She balanced out to a showy outfit that may have even more success in the future.

Junior Best Udder winner was awarded Junior Champion. There was nothing between her and the Reserve Junior winner who stood up well with nice body balance. The Honourable mention junior was a lovely conformation youngster, with neat udder.

A nice lot of heifers competing for Juvenile Championship. The winner had a lovely strong top line with wide pins. She was lengthy with nice body capacity and udder make up very good.

Reserve Juvenile was very sharp bone and upstanding.

Many thanks to the Queensland breeders who were fantastic in the way I was looked after while in their care. Thanks to Warren for picking me up at Brisbane and driving me to meet up with Clayton. Then staying the night with David and Desi and also 2 of their delightful grandchildren. On Saturday Clayton drove me to exhibitor farms, ending at the Antcliff dairy. Greg then took me to the home of Warren and Jillian Davis where I stayed 2 nights. Then on Monday Warren drove us to Toowoomba where the presentation was held at the Arthur Morris farm. After Arthur took me to his Brisbane home where I stayed the night before catching the plane early Tuesday morning. I am greatfull of the efforts by all who helped make the OFC a pleasurable and successful event.

GJ & JR Antcliff (07) 5423 1474 Pure Jersey Breeders of Australia Inc.

This year has been a very busy year for the Pure Jersey Breeders, as we just celebrated the twenty fifth anniver- sary of our organisation. Our celebrations started on Friday the 25th of July, when our visitors arrived from inter- state and were billeted by our local members.

On saturday morning we travelled to the home of Anthony and Judy Higgins (Erindale Jerseys) where we had a herd visit and saw some very lovely Jerseys. We then travelled to Mooroopna to visit the Maraglen Jersey Stud of the Smith family, there we were given a very nice lunch. After lunch we had the opportunity to look at some very good cows and heifers, then proceeded to the home of the Sunshine Farm Jerseys (Neville and Janelle McDon- ald). There two we saw another very good herd of jerseys.

On saturday evening we all met at the Kyabram Club where we were given a very nice meal, and met up with lots of members from different parts of the Country. After some formal speeches we launched our anniversary book, which was put together with some stud histories and how and why the association was formed.

Sunday morning we travelled to Nar Nar Goon in Gippsland to the home of the Ritchie Family (Seven Hills Jer- sey Stud), there we were given a very lovely dinner. After dinner we had our Annual General Meeting, then pro- ceeded to see the herd of cows where again we saw more good cows.

After staying overnight at Morwell we all travelled to Nambrock in East Gippsland to see the very nice herd of the Askew Family (Raywyn Jerseys). After the herd visit we were treated to a very nice lunch in the trophy build- ing at the Askew family Jersey Stud. There we saw some very nice photos and trophies, that Raywyn received over their lifetime, and as most breeders would know Raywyn Jersey Stud have claimed as many Champions at Melbourne Royal along with Sydney and Adelaide as any other Jersey Stud.

As Publicity officer for the Pure Jersey Breeders, I would like to thank each and every-one who came along to our Anniversary Celebrations, and to all who made us so welcome at the different farm visits, it was very much appreciated. Harry Adams

On the farm there is no irrigation we are dryland farming, we make our own silage and hay and this year records were bro- ken making 1037 silage rolls while carrying a cow to the acre on the home farm. The second farm will carry bulls, calves and heifers and hay will be produced from here expecting to again exceed in rolls. The milkers are fed minimal grain and no crops have been planted because of lack of rain. Production for this season has seen the stud break their production re- cords to date. This year 159 calves were reared on fresh milk and the cows have broken their own records by out producing in any year ,to date, by 10,557 litres, 1113 kg Butterfat and 1045 Kg Protein and producing low BMCC milk. Under factory results the whole herd’s highest test was 7.25 Butterfat and 4.87 Protein.
