Resolution No. 06-18 RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF MARCH AS NATIONAL ATHLETIC TRAINING MONTH WHEREAS, certified athletic trainers have a long history of providing quality health care for athletes and those engaged in physical activity based on specific tasks, knowledge, and skills acquired through their nationally regulated educational processes; and WHEREAS, celiified athletic trainers provide services that include education and guidance for the prevention of injuries; recognition and evaluation of injuries along with aggressive treatment when necessary; rehabilitation; and health care administration; and WHEREAS, the National Athletic Trainers' Association represents and supports 30,000 members of the athletic training profession; and WHEREAS, athletic trainers are employed in the following settings: professional sports, colleges and universities, high schools, clinics and hospitals, corporate and industrial settings, and military branches; and WHEREAS, leading organizations concerned with athletic training and health care have joined together in a common desire to raise public awareness of the athletic training profession, and the importance of quality health care; and WHEREAS, such an effort will improve health care for athletes and those engaged in physical activity, and promote certified athletic trainers as allied health professionals; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County ofMaui: 1. BLUE LINE PROJECT Kaunakakai (MOLOKAʻI) April 21, 2018 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Thank you for taking part in the Blue Line Project 2018! You will be joined by thousands of students and community members in drawing “blue lines” in chalk to mark the sea level rise exposure area around Hawaii. Together, we will show the world that Hawaii is concerned about the future of the islands we call home and is committed to taking action on climate. Below is information about the event on April 21: Check in: Check in starts at 8:30 a.m. at each location. Please assemble at your designated command centers! Where: Duke Malu Regional Park-Parking Lot off Kam Highway. Once checked in, you will be instructed where to “draw the line” with chalk! Attire: Be comfortable and be prepared! If you are a student or teacher, please feel free to represent your school or district by wearing your school colors/shirts. Signs: We encourage you to bring your own signs and to be creative with your message about climate change! You will have the opportunity to share your message with the community during a sign-waving portion of the event. However, we have limited supply for making signs on site. Chalk: Blue Planet will supply blue chalk for all volunteers and students to use. Please follow instructions of each Blue Line Captain as safety is number our top priority. Weather: We’re hoping for sunny skies that Saturday — currently, it looks like rain! Please bring sunscreen, skin protection and outwear in case of a change in weather.

Friends of Old Maui High School SILVER S WORD Winter 2005 Restoration Underway at Old MHS Grant to fund Cleanup, Planning & Design An EPA Special Purpose Grant secured by Senator Daniel Inouye will be used by co-grantees Friends of Old Maui High School and Community Work Day Program to begin the restoration and re-use of the historic administration building at old Maui High School, with a two-year workplan, beginning October 2005. The $248,000 grant will fund extensive site work, including clearing and composting invasive trees and shrubs, and careful removal - to the bare concrete walls - of all structural debris within the 1921 building. Usable materials will be recycled, and the sturdy walls will be evaluated while concepts and designs for the future Patsy T. Mink Center will be conceptualized. The clean-up will include a training component, which will provide qualified, experienced workers to assist in future historic preservation work. The Friends and CWD will work together with their partners in gov- ernment, business and community, to enhance the dollar value of the EPA funds. Our progress will be reported regularly, so alumni, partners and supporters will know how the project is going, and how they can help. Part of the grant funds will be allocated to document the history of old Maui High School, to ensure the historic, cultural, architectural and social impacts of Maui’s first co-educational high school are well remembered and celebrated. From the start of preservation efforts in 2003, an enormous amount of work has already been done to mitigate the effects of neglect and dete- rioration at the school.
