The only problem was getting there… I’m not a fan of the open water and wasn’t feeling fab about getting into the teeny (but trustworthy) boat that’s been taking Partners back and forth for 50 years: Castello. My fears were washed away A DAY MAKES… quickly, though, as Skipper Tom Garsden welcomed us aboard and the journey across was lovely. Now it was time for some outdoor fun! And there’s no shortage …especially if you spend it of it on Brownsea. I unleashed my inner child by having a go on the swing, slide and at one of our holiday climbing frame and tried my hand (badly) at disc golf and croquet. I even went head-to-head at skittles with actual child Louie Thompson (he won). If you’ve got centres. Dalia Dawood kids, they’ll be in activity heaven here. And, if you’re a big kid like me, you’ll be just as recharged her batteries in satisfied.

  • ITALIAN BOWIE Tutto Di David Bowie in Italia E Visto Dall'italia INTRODUZIONE

‘BEFORE GOOGLE AND THE INTERNET... THERE WAS DAVID BIEBER.’ - CARTER ALAN, DJ/Music Director/author David Bieber amidst a few of his many artifacts at the Verb Hotel. Save The Stuff You Love! is the de facto mantra of the David Bieber Archives. And that’s what David Bieber has been doing his whole life. Now, after 35 years in cold storage, the always-growing collection, a vast stockpile of media, music, film and pop culture artifacts, is finally seeing the light of day. The Archives has the goods, preserving more than 1,000,000 pieces of memorabilia, including: vinyl albums, 45s, CDs, cassettes, 8-tracks, reel-to-reels, videos, DVDs, comics, posters, record store and movie theatre displays, promo items, books, magazines, newspapers, fanzines, photos, press kits, autographs, political banners, artwork, toys and games, commemorative bottles and cans, instruments, TVs, stereos, radios, telephones, assorted electronics, apparel, furniture, packaging, signage, and miscellaneous ephemera. From early-20th century to present day, vintage to modern, common to ultra rare, there’s nothing quite like it. As David puts it, the collection is meant to represent “a cultural moment that actually existed in time, and for the most part was discarded. It tells the story of what has happened.” ‘David’s collection is a testament to the fact that the passage of time renders extraordinary value to ordinary things.’ - BETTY FULTON, International Antiquarian Book Fair It took twelve tractor trailer trucks to bring the David Bieber Archives to its current location at the Norwood Space Center, a converted mill complex situated between Boston and Providence.

  • This Year We Furthered Our Research to Name 100
100 Historic Black Women Guitarists and Bassists You Need To Know 02.13.20 Written by She Shreds Staff 35 This year we furthered our research to name 100 black women guitarists because we believe in constantly celebrating Black and Afro-identifying communities around the world—a statement meant to prove the disparity between the history we’re told and the history that exists. Last February, we published “50 Historic Black Women Guitarists and Bassists You Needs to Know” to showcase the influences that black, indigenous, and Afro-identifying women musicians have had on music history. For 2020, we updated the list to 100 black women guitarists, because we should constantly be celebrating the innovation, resilience, and talent of black music communities. For this particular list, we choose to focus on black women guitarists and bassists from prior to 1999. We did this specifically to showcase the legends—many of whom unfortunately have been overlooked, dismissed, or forgotten—that should be recognized as pillars of music history. This list is not to be brushed off as just another list. Rather, it should be treated as a step taken towards exposing the truth. It’s for all of us who aren’t able to count the names of black women guitarists on one hand. It’s for the young black girls aspiring to be musicians but seldom see a history that represents them. It’s to learn about our past and evolve into our future— and without black history, we cannot accurately do so. Below are 100 women, some of which you’ve heard about countless times, such as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Elizabeth Cotten, and Barbara Lynn.
