Ray Cummins P.O. Box 1578 * Florence KY 41022 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: March 23, 2006 Contact: Ruth Hervey (859) 384-4729 Master Guitarist Ray Cummins to perform at “County Place Jamboree” Florence, KY–March 23–Many of us have dreamed of playing guitar - whether it's rock 'n' roll, country, or any other genre, no one looks as cool onstage as the guitarist. Master guitarist, Ray Cummins, will perform at the “County Place Jamboree” at 60 Old Sheep Pen Road, Frankfort, KY on Friday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. This versatile guitarist plays Pop, Country, Rock, Jazz Fusion, Gospel, Classical and Flamenco. He is a fingerpicker, who is often compared to the late Chet Atkins, who was considered the master of playing guitar fingerstyle. Cummins describes fingerstyle as being, “a la Chet Atkins”. He says, “There aren't many people playing this style. It takes a life time of work to accomplish this style, playing the melody and alternating the bass at the same time is considered Chet style. With hours of practice and certain amount of talent, you can play classical and many other styles still by using the finger style technique. Many of my peers say that I play closer to Chet than anyone. Everyone comes out and hear a variety of guitar music. I try to play the most entertaining songs and arrangements.” Ray also made over 50 solo appearances on television, including Hee Haw and the Nashville Network Cable TV show, Nashville Now. Locally, he has been a guest quite a few times on ICN6’s Northern Kentucky Magazine. Additionally, Cummins performed alongside Bill Anderson, Lenny Breau, Roy Clark, Don Gibson, Jim Hutton, Charlie Louvin, Bill Monroe, Louie Nye, The Osborne Brothers, Tex Ritter, Betty Jean Robinson, Cybil Shephard, Cal Smith, St. Johns River City Band, Sylvia, Merle Travis, Ernest Tubb, Billy Walker, Leona Williams, and many others. During his career, Cummins has played guitar with and been befriended by guitar legends Chet Atkins and Les Paul. "Ray Cummins is my good friend and one of the best finger pickers around,” said Chet Atkins. Les Paul stated, “Ray Cummins is one of the best.” Cummins played on over 500 recordings as a studio musician. Ray has made several solo albums, that he sells at his concerts, and recently released a new one title Guitar Varieties. Tickets for his concert cost $15.
