HISTORY OF A LANDMARK The six-storey Free Press Building was erected in 1912 on the West side of Carlton Street between Portage Avenue and Ellice Avenue. Reinforced concrete frames the exterior brick walls that contribute to downtown Winnipeg’s phenomenal character.
