Brief Summary: For Expansion of 420 MW Tenughat Thermal Power Station by addition of 2 units of 660 MW at Lalpania Village, District,

Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Limited (TVNL) intends to set up 2x660 MW Coal fired supercritical units of Extension Project (Stage – II) at the Tenughat Thermal Power Station (TTPS) located at Lalpania, District Bokaro, Jharkhand. Presently, the total installed capacity of Tenughat Thermal Power Station is 420MW having two units of 210 MW capacity each. The project site is situated on the left bank of Tenughat Reservoir which is built on . The Ministry of Coal has allotted the Rajbar E&D Coal block to Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Limited for meeting the fuel requirement of this extension project of 2x660 MW. A total of 1800 acres of land is under possession of TVNL where the existing plant is running. The setting up of the proposed 2x660 MW power plant will require 1038 acres of land including ash pond. Of this 1038 acres land, 300 acres land will be used for ash pond.

The maximum water requirement for the proposed 2x660 MW will be 3300 m3/hr in line with MoEF&CC’s notification dated 7th December, 2015. TVNL have been allocated 50 cusec (approximately 5100 m3/hr) of water from Tenughat Reservoir. The water requirement for the existing unit will be 1470 m3/hr after installation of cooling towers. Thus requirement of additional water allocation is not envisaged.

For the proposed units, domestic coal will be used as primary fuel @ 6.8 million tonnes per annum @ 85% PLF (GCV-3400 Kcal/Kg, HR – 2247 Kcal /kWh). The coal will be sourced from Rajbar E&D Coal Block. The existing units utilize coal in the tune of 2550 to 2700 tonnes per day. The coal is transported by road from East Bokaro and West Bokaro Collieries of CCL from a distance of around 50 km. Through rail, coal is transported from Piparwar area and Dhori Coalfields of CCL from around a distance of 100 km from the project site.

It is expected that the proposed units will generate 3.3 MTPA of ash while the existing units generate 0.93 to 0.98 MTPA of ash. There are no wildlife sanctuaries or national parks within 10 km radius of the project site.
