This award has allowed me to further achieve my educational goals. My dream has always been to become a college graduate. This dream would not have come true without this scholarship. I promise I will work very hard and eventually give something back to others, both as a teacher and possibly a scholarship to future students like myself. Elida Ochoa 2011 Community Foundation Scholar U.S. Grant High School Oklahoma City Community Foundation: Our Scholarship Staff The dedicated staff Listed below not only oversee Community Foundation Scholars program and the other four Trustee Scholarship Initiative programs but also are responsible for more than 120 scholarship endowment funds that collectively award an average of 700 scholarships a year. In academic year 2013, these endowment funds awarded more than $1.7 million. During 2013, the staff worked to move the majority of the scholarship application forms to an online process. The new online application has streamlined the process for both applicants and our staff. It has also made applicants more aware of the additional scholarships we offer. See the scholarships that have an online application on page 7. Any questions regarding the scholarship program, please contact one of the staff below. As Community Foundation Scholars, you are being rewarded for being good students who are good citizens and for some, being the first in your family to attend college. Our Trustee Scholarship Initiative was established in 1998 as a way to encourage more students in central Oklahoma to further their education after high school. The Community Foundation Scholars is just one component of the Initiative and we encourage you to read more about the other programs on page 2. We are only able to provide the Trustee Scholarship Initiative to students like you because donors past and present have made the program possible. It is because of their desire to help others achieve their dreams. Think about it; their generosity is helping students they will most Likely never meet. That concept is one we encourage you to keep in mind for the time when you begin looking for ways to give back to your community. You can see the list of donors who have contributed to this Initiative on pages 4-5. We hope you enjoy this yearbook and that in years to come it will remind you and your family of your academic success and that the Oklahoma City Community Foundation believes in you. We wish you the very best of luck as you begin a new chapter. We hope that you stay in touch with us and let us know how your college career is advancing. Thank you for helping make my goal to graduate from the University of Oklahoma realistic. As a low income student the annual rate to attend OU was definitely out of my league. Free workshops are held twice a year to help counselors stay informed on the latest college admissions and financial aid practices. The Central Oklahoma Guidance Counselor Network An important component in the Oklahoma City Community Foundation's Trustee Scholarship Initiative is the Central Oklahoma Guidance Counselor Network, which provides training and support for high school guidance counselors at 51 public and private high schools in central Oklahoma. Realizing the important role these counselors fill, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation provides important resources through the network. For many of these counselors, the information offered through two annual continuing education workshops provides the only opportunity to learn about current college admission issues and financial aid opportunities. In addition, we coordinate campus visits for counselors to universities, colleges and technology centers in Oklahoma and surrounding states. As an added incentive, each year we provide at least one Community Foundation Scholars award to each of the high schools whose guidance counselor participated in the activities. 2014 Central Oklahoma Guidance Counselor Network ASTEC Charter School - Jill Carson Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School-Sandy Nedbalek Bethany High School - Carlann Miller Midwest City High School- Jamie Butler Capitol Hill High School - Kimberly Ross Millwood High School- Trisha Draper Carl Albert High School - Lora Souza Moore High School - Nakia McCarrell Casady School - Lisa Clay Mount Saint Mary Catholic High School-Sara h Tempest Centennial High School-Jocelyn Trager Mustang High School- Paula Buckmaster Choctaw High School - Cormiere Bishop Norman High School-Katherine Contest Christian Heritage Academy - Troop Bullard Norman North High School- Phyllis Michaud Classen School of Advanced Studies - Robin Lindsey Northeast Academy for Health Science & English -Lois Jones Crooked Oak High School - Kelly Farley Northwest Classen High School - Cassandra Sharp Deer Creek High School - Cindy McCachern Oklahoma Christian Academy - Gabriel Schmidt Del City High School-Barry Millican Oklahoma Christian Schools-Sharon Jones Douglass High School - Tina Williams Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics - Gary Salwierak Edmond Memorial High School - Carol Doherty Piedmont High School - Cathy Earnest Edmond North High School-Stephanie
