Más de 230 producciones de todos los continentes llenarán las pantallas de Gijón con cerca de 280 pases. Este año recibimos honrados el Premio Lumière, que reconoce los cincuenta y dos años de trayectoria del Festival. Permítanme dar las gracias, a todas las personas e instituciones que hicieron y hacen posible que el FICXIXÓN sea uno de los festivales más importantes y respetados de España, y especialmente, a los miles de espectadores que han disfrutado y llenado las proyecciones del Festival durante todos estos años. Quisiera, a título personal, agradecer y aplaudir el trabajo de los distin- tos directores que han ocupado mi lugar previamente, ya que cada uno de ellos ha puesto su granito de arena en construir un gran Festival, que ahora consolidado, camina hacia el futuro. Su objetivo y el nuestro siem- pre ha sido crear un público crítico y amante de un cine distinto, diverso y cargado de múltiples matices. Haciendo que el espectador descubra filmografías de grandes cineastas, muchos de ellos desconocidos para el gran público debido a las dictaduras de las salas y las modas comer- ciales. A esta prestigiosa lista se añaden este año los nombres de Bill Plymton y Brillante Mendoza. Este año el Premio Mujer de Cine es para la oscarizada y respetada figu- rinista, Yvonne Blake. El Premio de Honor para el visionario Terry Gilliam, y el Premio Nacho Martínez recae en el actor Imanol Arias. Dos secciones nuevas arrancan este año: Convergencias, donde el pú- Nacho blico podrá disfrutar de películas inéditas en España, con encuentro con el crítico que ha propuesto dicha película, y Docuficx, seis películas de Carballo no ficción, de estreno en España, que competirán por el premio Karma Films, que otorgará un Jurado compuesto por grandes profesionales. Un año más la sección de Animaficx, volverá a traer la mejor propuesta de animación del mundo a nuestras salas, de verdad, no te la puedes Director Festival Internacional perder.
