SUMMARY OF SERVICE ACTIVITIES In early 2010, I served temporarily (Jan-April, 2010) as Associate Vice-Provost of Academic Affairs (40% effort) while Vice-Provost Sally Marshall took on additional duties as Acting Executive Vice-Provost (after the departure of EVP Eugene Washington). She resumed her role as Vice-Provost of Academic Affairs when Jeff Bluestone was appointed Executive Vice-Provost; and, it was at that time that I returned to my regular duties.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO DIVERSITY My university service flows both from my service as Associate Dean, Academic Affairs and my interests in representing the pharmacy profession and pharmacy academy at the systemwide and campus levels. I spend approximately 50% of my time in duties related to my Associate Dean appointment (faculty advancement; policy review and revision; compensation plan revision; regular meetings with Vice-Provost and Vice/Associate Deans from all professional schools; Dean's leadership group; grievance/misconduct cases related to School of Pharmacy and other professional programs).

RESEARCH PROGRAM My primary research focus is epilepsy therapeutics and most of my activity is in the areas of clinical trials and pharmacogenomics. Presently, my major research effort focuses on two epilepsy projects:

The Epilepsy Phenome-Genome Project (EPGP) - a comprehensive, multiinstitutional study to assemble detailed phenotype and genotype data from a large number of patients with epilepsy from throughout the United States.

The Human Epilepsy Project (HEP) - I am a co-investigator and Neuropharmacology Core leader (10% effort). HEP is a large, five-year, prospective study whose primary objective is to identify clinical characteristics and biomarkers predictive of disease outcome and progression, and treatment response in patients with recently diagnosed focal epilepsy. HEP will collect high- resolution clinical information and treatment response, MRI's, EEG, and blood and urine samples for biomarkers. A major outcome of the project is to create an open data repository of clinical information and biologic samples for future studies. Neuropharmacology core members include: Abou-Khalil Bassel, MD (Vanderbilt), Jim Cloyd (Univ Minnesota), Edward Faught (Emory Univ), David Ficker (Univ Cincinnati), Jacqueline French (NYU), Tracy Glauser (Univ Cincinnati), and Scott Mintzer (Jefferson Univ). Our responsibilities include oversight of all aspects of antiepileptic drug treatment for the HEP study.
