From the IITS Media Editor: une 16,2020 Welcome to the July 2020 edition of your ‘Island in the Sun Sentinel’. J When you read this we will be going into our fourth month of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and shutdown. Things are starting to open at little more in Florida and other states, but it is still important to follow state and local guidelines when venturing out. Hopefully things will start getting a little more back to normal (whatever that may mean!). As of now I do not have any information about when the clubhouse will be opening back up, but as of right now, the pool is open at 50% capacity, and pickleball is also open. NOTE: As of Monday, pickleball and shuffleboard, and the fitness center are also open. Other activities should be ramping back up soon. Calendar and monthly activities information is provided by the HOA and the activities committee. Note we are starting to open up for outdoor activities, will keep everyone posted on status of clubhouse opening. I encourage everyone to watch the sign board, sign up for the various FB sites, and the RoboCall phone messaging service. I encourage anyone who would like to share to submit an article regarding how they came to be at IITS. Anything pet related is welcome as well. We need to get back to making the media about IITS and our residents! I would really like to hear ideas of what you as residents would like to have included in the monthly media, or if there are any topics you would like to see on a monthly basis. Participation and submission of articles from you would be welcomed. We are living in very disturbing times right now for sure. A pandemic, the likes of we none of us have seen in our lifetime. Protesting in the streets all over the world. In the midst of an economic slump not seen since the Great Depression. Sounds pretty gloomy, right? JUST LOOK AROUND YOU! Your locked in with your family for the most part and you get to spend time with the ones you love most. Time you wouldn’t have if the virus quarantine wasn’t in effect. JUST LOOK AROUND YOU! ctivities are slowly opening back up as things get back to normal. Chit-chat returns and individual residences, Shuffleboard and Bocce ball are back up. In addition, even A though masks are still required on the pool deck and in the gym, those facilities are open and available to residents. A cookout is scheduled for July 18. Once the clubhouse opens back up, the activities committee will meet to discuss the feasibility of future events.. HOA meetings are being held via Skype for the time being.
ISLAND IN THE SUN SENTINEL JULY, 2020 E 11 REMEMBRANCE – July SYLVIA HENDRIX Our hearts go out to Angela Spevak who lost her mother, Sylvia Hendrix, on June 1, 2020 to cancer. Sylvia and her husband Bill lived with Angie & Jerry at 73 Bahama Lane since early in 2019. She enjoyed shopping and going out to eat. We extend our condolences to her entire family.
JOAN OTTINGER (Submitted by Helen Dennison) Joan and Clay Bowlen were residents of #141 for just a few short years, but they were inseparable. She was at every lip sync and karaoke party, singing her heart out. Joan passed away from an apparent heart attack after an illness that required staying in a medical facility for a few months. Joan was one of the few people in our community who were actually born in Florida, having spent her early years in the Weeki Wachee area. She was an elementary school teacher, and had also spent time as a lifeguard. Joan loved life, and enjoyed living it to the fullest. After her husband died, she met a wonderful man named Clay, and it was love at 1st sight! Joan used to tell me that we not only loved each other, but we were “in love”. Joan as beautiful, loving and kind, and a joy to be around. She loved to sing, and play the organ they had in their home. Joan and Clay took a vacation whenever they could. They packed their electric scooters, which folded up, and would put them in their van, and take them wherever they were going. They loved Las Vegas, Biloxi and Atlantic City, and would rid their scooters all over the casinos. She will be sorely missed. Please reach out to Cindy Sadusky if you have any information on residents who are ill or have passed away so they can be included in the remembrance section of the media.
