VERSION 1: OCTOBER 1, 2014 – Initial version for revision and approval by COC VERSION 2: OCTOBER 24, 2014 – Communicated and posted In August 2014 at the conclusion of the Senior Pan American Championships that were held in - L’EXPÉRIENCE ULTIME DU MOUVEMENT- HUMAIN Mississauga, ON, Canada earned 2 spots per gender that will be selected to take part at the Pan American Games (TO2015) that will be held in Toronto from July 18-19, 2015. This is only a highly condensed summary of the process to determine which athletes will represent Canada at TO2015. For complete details of TO2015 quotas please review the Pan American Gymnastics Union (PAGU) criteria (see annex document PAGU 2014 – Qualification System – Gymnastics.pdf). GYMNASTIQUE ELIGIBILITY In order to be eligible for nomination to the TO2015 selection, all athletes must: 1. Be a Canadian Citizen as well as meet all nationality requirements of the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) and PAGU; 2. Be in possession of a valid FIG license; 3. Have a valid Canadian Passport valid until at least July 30th, 2015; 4. Be a member in good standing of Gymnastics Canada (GCG); 5. To be at least 18 years old as of December 31, 2015 SELECTION AUTHORITY All decisions for selection to the TO2015 Trampoline Team are the responsibility of the High Performance Director (HPD). Note that during the actual competition period onsite at the TO2015 that all final decision making authority will reside with the GCG Team Leader for Trampoline or the GCG Head Coach in the absence of a GCG nominated Team Leader for Trampoline. NOMINATION The top 2 athletes per gender on the Senior ranking list as of April 30, 2015 (after 2015 Canada Cup) will be selected. The Senior ranking list is calculated the following way: - The best scores from the last 3 national trials (2014 Nationals, 2014 Canada Cup and 2015 Canada Cup) will be taken for each of these component: o For the best preliminary score o For the best first routine (not coming from the best preliminary score) o For the best second routine (not coming from the best preliminary score) o For the best final routine - This ranking will be completed using the best difference score used as replacement score from either the first routine or the second routine or the final routine from the following international competitions: o 2014 Switzerland World Cup, Arosa, SUI (Jun 2014) o 2014 Senior Pan American Championships, Mississauga, ON, CAN (Aug 2014) o 2014 Portugal World Cup, Loulé, POR (Sep 2014) o 2014 Belarus World Cup, Minsk, BLR (Sep 2014) o 2014 World Championships, Daytona Beach, FL, USA (Nov 2014) o 2014 Kawasaki Open, Kawasaki, JPN (Dec 2014) o 2015 Flower Cup, Aalsmeer, NED (Mar 2015) – only if part of Canadian Team In order to be selected, athletes must also comply with the minimum difficulty requirement for the Senior category of 13.3 for Women and 16.0 for Men. The 3rd ranked athlete per gender will be named alternate. INJURY AND READINESS If there is a significant injury, illness, decrease in training, or decrease in performance exhibited by the selected athlete(s) between May 1st, 2015 and June 10th, 2015, then the personal coach of the athlete is obligated to notify the HPD. In such cases, and as deemed necessary by the HPD, the next highest ranked athlete will become the named TO2015 athlete. The same rule applies for the nominated alternates who are required to keep training at the highest level possible in order to be ready to replace any selected athlete. The team will be officially announced on April 30th, 2015. The first alternate athlete need to be ready but will not necessarily travel to Toronto. Therefore, these athletes should continue their training until it is certain that s/he will not be required to replace the nominated TO2015 athlete. LATE ATHLETE REPLACEMENT Note that any substitution made after June 15th, 2015 is subject to the Toronto 2015 Organizing Committee late athlete replacement policy and no longer at the discretion of GCG. 2015 Toronto Pan American Games - Internal Nomination Procedure (v2 – October 24, 2014) Page 2 UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES In the event of unforeseen or unusual circumstances, as determined by the HPD, he shall have the full discretion to resolve the matter as he sees fit taking into account factors and circumstances that he deems relevant. Any such exercise of discretion shall be subject to the Canadian administrative law principles of fairness. CHANGE TO THIS DOCUMENT The HPD reserves the right to make changes to this document, which in his discretion are necessary to ensure selection of the best teams possible for the TO2015. Any changes to this document shall be communicated directly to all Canadian Trampoline Team members and notification of changes will also be posted to the GCG website at http://www.gymcan.org/site/documents_view.php?cat=6&subcat=31 APPEAL PROCEDURE In the event that there is an appeal of a team selection decision, the GCG appeal policy in effect at that time will be used. Please refer to the appeal procedure document “GCG POLICIES & PROCEDURES March 2011 Version” in the SECTION 39 – APPEALS, posted on the GCG website at http://www.gymcan.org/site/policies.php Appeals must be submitted no later than May 10th, 2015. Upon exhaustion of the GCG Appeals process, any athlete has the right to continue the appeal to the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) “ADRSportRed” program. Please see http://www.crdsc-sdrcc.ca/. ATHLETE AGREEMENT UPON SELECTION All athletes selected to the 2015 Pan American Team will be required to sign an Athlete Agreement subject to all the policies and procedures of GCG. STAFF SELECTION The HPD in consultation with the National Team Advisor have the sole discretion in selecting the support staff for the TO2015. The support staff is selected based on the principle of sending a team of personal coaches and specialists that is the best capable of assisting athletes in achieving podium performances for these competitions. LANGUAGE In case of any discrepancies between the English and French versions of the Trampoline & Tumbling Internal Nomination Procedure, the English wording takes precedence. It was an understandable reaction for an athlete who has spent her entire competitive career in virtual obscurity, performing in dark suburban roller arenas in front of a few dozen spectators rather than the standing room only crowd that filled the venue on Sunday to a cheer her sixth place finish. “When I saw people sitting down an hour before we started skating I knew it was going to be something big,” the American said. “I was shocked people were sitting down before I skat- ed, people are sitting down to watch us...oh my gosh. “That was probably the biggest crowd I have ever skated in front of before in my life. “A regular competition for me would basically be in a regular roller rink and the crowd might be maybe 20-25 at most. “We never skate in a big venue like this. The Pan American Games, this is like our Olympics.” The Pan Am Games is as big as it gets for the roller figure skaters, who get to march in open- ing and closing ceremonies alongside 7,000 oth- er athletes, live in the village and soak up a fac- simile of the Olympic experience that for the moment remains a distant dream. “I felt amazing; I have never had everyone out there cheering for me so there was just a lot of energy out there today,” said Canada’s Kailah Macri.
