DELEGATION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION HAS LAUNCHED A NEW INFORMATION CENTER IN , MOLDOVA

A new European Union Information Centre (EUI) has been opened in Ungheni on October 25, with the aim to provide the citizens from the Western Moldova with free access to information about the European Union. The inauguration ceremony was attended by The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, HE Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, the President of Rayon Ungheni, Iurie Toma, the Vicepresident of Rayon Ungheni, Alexandru Ciuvaga and the Mayor of Ungheni, Alexandru Ambros.

The EUI provides the interested public with information and literature covering a wide range of areas, inter alia, EU programmes and instruments for the European Neighbourhood Policy countries, including Moldova; EU legislation, business rules and, last but not least, culture.

The EUI offers free access to its resources and is open to the interested public, including youth, students, experts in various fields and businessmen.

From 2007, 8 EUIs have been opened in Moldova, including the EUIs launched in Balti, , , and Ungheni. In the Moldovan capital, there are 3 of such centres.

The EUI network in Moldova receives free of charge the materials and literature from the Publication Office of the European Union, based in Luxembourg. In this respect, a contract was signed with each hosting University under which the European Union has committed to deliver the literature requested by the EUIs’ coordinators on a permanent basis.

Those that want to get informed about European Union can address to the following institutions: “” Lyceum (Soroca), Academy of Economic Studies, State University from Moldova, University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Moldova (Chisinau), Alecu Russo State University (Balti), State University (Cahul), in Comrat State University (Comrat) and “Vasile Alecsandri” Lyceum, Ungheni.
