Job Posting: Town of North , Code Enforcement Officer

The Town of North Haven is looking for an experienced Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) who meets the certification requirements set out under Maine State law and Department of Public Safety, Office of the State Fire Marshal, regulations.

North Haven is an island community lying 12 miles off the coast of Rockland. The island is accessible by the State’s vehicle ferry, by air via Penobscot Island Air, or by private boat.

North Haven has an active housing construction and renovation industry, requiring CEO action on approximately 40 permits per year. Many of the permits involve the shoreland zone and subsurface wastewater disposal. The CEO would also be expected to assist and advise the Town’s Planning Board, both in their evaluation of particular permit applications and in their development and refinement of land-use ordinances and policies. The CEO would be expected to work with the Town and the Planning Board to schedule visits to the island and to participate by phone or computer as needed.

Salary is negotiable based on experience. The Town is open to an hourly rate of pay or a daily rate for each visit to the island. The Town will also pay for job-related training.

In addition to required State certifications, the candidate must have a valid State of Maine driver’s license, a good driving record, and a vehicle available for job use.
