A. Vagliano, originally for annual competition between teams from and Great Britain and Ireland. Since 1959, by mutual agreement, the competition has been a biennial one between teams from the Continent of Europe, Great Britain and Ireland. v SELECTION PROCEDURE Continent of Europe team selections will be made using the Women’s World Amateur Golf Rankings (WWAGR) as an overall guide to player performances. Updates on European player progress will be available from the EGA website (http://www.ega- golf.ch/rankings/Women) and enquiries as to prospective players’ availability will be made to national golf authorities throughout the selection period. Particular notice will be taken of player results in both major individual championships and in national team representative matches. v SYSTEM OF PLAY The match consists of four foursomes and eight singles of 18 holes on each of the two days. The foursomes matches are played each morning and the singles in the afternoon. A win counts as one point, a half yields half a point and a lost match returns zero. In the event of a tie, the trophy shall be retained by the holders. GEORGE’S GOLF CLUB Founded in 1887 and intended by its founder, Dr William Laidlaw Purves, to be a rival to St Andrew’s in the South of England, St George’s is consistently ranked amongst the leading courses in the World.

The Club occupies a unique place in the history of golf, for it was here in 1894, that the Open Championship was first played outside Scotland.

In all there have been 14 Open Championships played at St George’s, more than any course outside of Scotland.

The Open Championship returns to St George’s for the 15th time in 2020, when the Club will host the 149th Open Championship
