6:45 am Welcome Andrew A. Freiberg, MD Young-Min Kwon, MD, PhD, FRCS, FRACS earned his medical degree magna cum laude from the University of , in 1996. Following gradua- tion, Dr. Kwon completed his orthopaedic residency at Concord Repatriation Gen- 6:50 am “Pseudotumours Young-Min Kwon, eral Hospital, Sydney, Australia in 2004. He is a Fellow in Orthopaedic Surgery in both the Royal College of Sur- geons of (FRCS) and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

In the fall of 2009, Dr. Kwon left the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Oxford, UK after obtaining his PhD from the University of Oxford, UK and joined 7:40 am Wrap-up / Adjourn Andrew A. Freiberg, MD the Arthroplasty Service at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at MGH. Just recently, Dr. Kwon was appointed a leadership role with the Annual HMS Ad- vances in Arthroplasty Course and the directorship of the Adult Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Program at MGH.

Dr. Kwon has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including The Sir John Irvine Hunter Prize in conjunction with the title of Prosector from the , the Australian Orthopaedic Association’s Travelling Fellow- ship Award, the Royal College of Surgeon’s Travelling Fellowship Award, the British Orthopaedic Research Society’s Young Investigator Award, and the Ortho- paedic Research Society’s New Investigator Recognition Award. While in Oxford, he was elected as the Girdlestone Scholar and received the Pollard Research Grant from the University of Oxford.

Dr. Kwon’s expertise in metal-on-metal hip replacements is recognized with more than 30 invited presentations at national and international scientific meetings. His current research interests include investigating in vivo failure mechanisms of metal -on-metal bearings, multi-center clinical outcome studies, joint registry data, and in vivo kinematics of hip and knee joint replacements. Dr. Kwon divides his time at Massachusetts General Hospital between his clinical activities specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery and his research in the Harris Orthopaedic Laborato- ries. Dr. Kwon and his wife Emma have two young sons, Oh-Jak and Oh-Joon.
