Charlemagne Youth Prize: application deadline extended until 15 February [22-01-2016 - 13:52] Are you between 16 and 30 years old and do you run a project with a European dimension? Then register for the 9th Charlemagne Youth Prize, which is awarded every year by the European Parliament. The deadline has been extended until 15 February. Winning projects will not only benefit from recognition and media coverage, but also from prize money to further develop the initiative. The Charlemagne Youth Prize is organised by the European Parliament and the International Charlemagne Prize Foundation in Aachen and is awarded each year to Article projects run by young people aged between 16 and 30. The winning projects should provide models for young people living in Europe and offer practical examples of Europeans living together as one community. The three winning projects are chosen from the 28 projects nominated by national juries in the individual EU member states and are awarded either €5,000, €3,000 or €2,000. Their representatives will be invited to visit the European Parliament in Brussels or Strasbourg in the autumn. Representatives of the 28 national winning projects will be invited to the Charlemagne Youth Prize award ceremony during a four-day trip to Aachen in May 2016. 2015 winners Representatives of the three winning projects were invited to the Parliament in Brussels on 14 and 15 October to meet MEPs. Check out our slideshow above to see what they had to say about the prize and how it benefitted their projects. The first prize was awarded to Luxembourg students running the project @RealTime WW1 , which recreates life during the First World War on Twitter. The second prize went to the Fronterra-European (border) line project from France. They created a website with stories about life on Europe’s borders and the journeys across them. This year for the first time in the history of the award, three different projects were awarded third place: • Social Soccer Cup (Austria): an international football tournament which aims to bring together young people from different European countries to overcome prejudices and to kick-start other joint projects • Entrepreneurship, the Solution against Unemployment (Cyprus): a multilateral youth exchange project promoting discussion on unemployment, emigration, entrepreneurship and non-formal education • Infoactualidad (Spain): an online newspaper for the Sciences of Information Faculty, Complutense University of Madrid.
