The EastcoNet 3 14th April 2018 ALL OUR YESTERYEARS Edited by Des Francis Once Eastcote got the taste of Continental Hockey festivals, a hockey tour abroad at Season’s end became standard practice. It was the youngish veterans of the day that led the way. Mel Carter was the driving force behind these ventures. Working at British Airways he made full use of the many contacts he made there. One of our first ports of call was a town which was quite close to Antwerp in Belgium called MECHELEN! Among the many “Great and Good” residents of Mechelen over the centuries were John Heywood an English poet, Charles V the Holy Roman Emperor, the grandfather of Ludwig Van Beethoven, and Anne Boleyn who was beheaded by Henry V111. At first Eastcote only entered a Veterans team. But when the youngsters discovered what great fun the Old Boys were having in Mechelen they demanded to be included and eventually we entered a Ladies, Mens and Veterans teams. We drove to Dover in small groups of 4 or 5, took the Ferry to any one of the continental ports where we stocked up on mainly liquid refreshments before driving to Mechelen. In Mechelen the entertainment never stopped throughout our stay there for 3/4 days from morning to morning. The hockey was played in a beautiful park that featured picturesque scenes surrounding two to three grass hockey pitches. There was a shallow river running through the park in which many an Eastcote player took a dip either voluntarily or involuntarily – mostly involuntarily. There are many stories to tell of the many trips we made to Mechelen in the late Sixties, the Seventies and early Eighties.

Sudbury – Then and Now This document is a permanent record of the display material from the exhibition which was held in October 2015. It is the result of a community local history project, carried out in partnership between Wembley History Society and Brent Museum and Archives from January 2015 onwards, working particularly with the two main residents’ associations covering Sudbury Court and Sudbury Town, and with the Friends of Barham Library. The idea was that their members could “adopt” an old photograph or postcard of the area from the Brent Archives collection, take a matching colour view of the same location, and provide some information or stories which helped to tell the history of the scene, and how it had changed between “then” and “now”. Two local primary schools, Sudbury and Barham, also took up the invitation to get involved. Their Year 5 classes used some old photographs for their own local history projects during the summer term. Between them they contributed four pairs of images to the display. The following pages are for everyone to share and enjoy, and discover more about Sudbury. 1 List of the Sudbury locations featured in the exhibition display:- Maps showing the locations of the photographs (pages 3 & 4) 18. Infrastructure Assessment and Delivery Plan Working Document LDF Local Development Framework 1.0 Introduction 1.0.1 This working document forms part of the evidence base that will inform Harrow’s LDF and, in particular, the Core Strategy. 1.0.2 Its purpose is to identify the types and quantum of social, physical and environmental infrastructure that will be required to support development and growth within the Borough over the LDF plan period, and to set this out in a Delivery Plan. In particular it seeks to: Provide a benchmark of existing infrastructure provision, identifying how well existing needs are met; Identify what new infrastructure is being planned as well as future infrastructure requirements to support population change, housing and employment growth as detailed in LDF documents; Provide an indication of the potential costs and means of funding the required infrastructure through public funding, developer contribution and other sources; Establish responsibilities for delivery of individual projects, when and where infrastructure will be provided, and provide a basis for collaborative and effective working between stakeholders. 1.0.3 In addition, the Delivery Plan will inform Council’s: Engagement with external agencies (e.g. LSP Partners, HCA, LDA, Mayor of London) Funding bids (e.g. one off grants) Capital programmes for different service areas Place Shaping and Property Review (the role and function of this – widened to include site assembly (CPO) and delivery through the disposal strategy) Allocation of land/sites for infrastructure in the Area Action Plan and/or the Site Specific Allocations DPD Policies for the Core Strategy and Development Management DPD S106 negotiations and agreements and the preparation of a Harrow Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Prioritization of infrastructure delivery.

  • Sudbury Hill Branch Is Closing on Friday 14 June 2019
This branch is closing – but we're still here to help Our Sudbury Hill branch is closing on Friday 14 June 2019 Reasons for closure, and alternative ways to bank This branch is closing – but your bank is always open This first booklet will help you understand why we’ve made the decision to close this branch. It also sets out the banking services and support that will be available to you after this branch has closed. In a second booklet, which will be available from the branch prior to it closing or online at home.barclays/ukbranchclosures, we'll share concerns and feedback from the local community. We'll also detail how we are helping people transition from using the branch with alternative ways to carry out their banking requirements. Here are the main reasons why the Sudbury Hill branch is closing: • The number of transactions has gone down in the previous 24 months, and additionally 83% of our branch customers also use other ways to do their banking such as online and by telephone. • Customers using other ways to do their banking has increased by 22% since 2012. • In the past 12 months, 44% of this branch's customers have been using neighbouring branches. • We've identified that only 80 customers use this branch exclusively for their banking Proposals to close any branch are made by the Barclays local leadership teams and verified at a national level ahead of any closure announcement. If you have any questions and concerns about these changes then please feel free to get in touch with Kim Mezoui, your Community Banking Director for Harrow Edgware & South Bucks.

  • Harrow Council on the Proposed Warding Arrangements As Part of the Current Phase of Your Electoral Review of the Borough
Legal & Governance Services Director – Hugh Peart Andrew Scallan Lead Commissioner The Local Government Boundary Commission For England 14th Floor Millbank Tower Millbank London SW1P 4QP 8 October 2018 Dear Mr Scallan, Electoral Review of London Borough of Harrow Please find enclosed the submission from Harrow Council on the proposed warding arrangements as part of the current phase of your electoral review of the Borough. It consists of a narrative report, a Borough map with our proposed ward boundaries and a spreadsheet which includes the electorate forecast figures for each proposed ward. This submission was approved at a meeting of the Council’s Licensing and General Purposes Committee held on 4 October 2018; the Committee has delegated authority to determine matters related to electoral arrangements in the Borough. As required by the procedures established by the Commission, the submission is based on the Council size of 55 councillors, the figure the Commission agreed it was “minded to” recommend. However, at the meeting, certain Members expressed their concerns at the proposed reduction in the number of councillors and, in particular, its implications for the democratic representation of local residents in the future. The Committee resolved to request the Commission to reconsider its view on the appropriate Council size and agree to retain the current number of 63 councillors for Harrow Borough. Should you require any further information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me.
