Public-Private Partnership Impact Stories India: Patna (Bihar) Hospital PPP Located in eastern India, Bihar is a low income state (LIS) with around 104 million people. According to the Government of India (GoI), over half the population is Below Poverty Line (BPL). In addition, the public health services in Bihar face severe constraints, especially lack of affordable specialty/tertiary care services. There are substantial gaps in health sector infrastructure and essential health requirements, including qualified staff, equipment, drugs, and consumables. As a result, people in the state have to travel to other states for their treatment. To help the state govern- ment improve access to, and availability of, advanced and affordable healthcare, IFC provided advisory assistance to the Government of Bihar and the state’s Infrastructure Development Authority (IDA), to structure and implement a public-private partner- ship (PPP) aimed at building, operating, and maintaining a greenfield super-specialty hospital in Patna, the capital city of the State of Bihar. The project was awarded on a competitive bid process to Global Health Patliputra Private Limited (GHPPL), a unit of Medanta the Medicity, one of India’s largest multi- super specialty hospitals. The concession agreement was signed with GHPPL on 22nd August 2015. The developer will develop the 500 bed super specialty hospital on Design, Build, Finance, Operate, & Transfer (DBFOT)) basis for a concession period of 33 years. This series provides an overview of public-private partnership stories in various infrastructure sectors, where IFC was the lead advisor. Geetha1 & V.Malarvizhi2 1Professor and 2Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Avinashilingam Institute for home Science and Higher Education for Women Coimbatore -641043, TamilNadu, India Abstract Financial liberalization and technology revolution have allowed the developments of new and more efficient delivery and processing channels as well as more innovative products and services in banking industry. Banking institutions are facing competition not only from each other but also from non-bank financial intermediaries as well as from alternative sources of financing. Another strategic challenge facing banking institutions today is the growing and changing needs and expectations of consumers in tandem with increased education levels and growing wealth. Consumers are becoming increasingly discerning and have become more involved in their financial decisions. This paper investigates the factors which are affecting the acceptance of e- banking services among the customers and also indicates level of concern regarding security and privacy issues in Indian context. Primary data was collected from 200 respondents through a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics was used to explain demographic profile of respondents and Factor and Regression analyses were used to know the factors affecting e-banking services among customer in India. Although rural electrification continues under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Programme that began in 2005 and the government celebrates its accomplishment of electrifying one lakh (100,000) villages, there are serious challenges ahead. This paper, based on our survey in rural Bihar, reveals that the progress of rural electrification may not be as advanced as government statistics indicate. Many villages became de-electrified in the past when inadequate government-provided transformers failed due to insufficient capacity. Some villages were fortunate and have been re-electrified, but many have been left un-electrified; simply waiting for the government 1 to help has proved to be an ineffective solution. This paper also reports on the issue of illegal connections. Power theft has become rampant in rural areas. As rural electrification progresses, access to electricity is easier than before. Governance is weak in rural areas, so there is virtually no checking and monitoring system for electricity use. These factors motivate some villagers to access electricity illegally. The government’s program to provide electricity to all the villages and all the households in rural areas should not be slowed, but side effects such as illegal connections should be taken more seriously. -

THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS: The Himalayan mountains form the northern mountain region of India. They are the highest mountain ranges in the world. They have the highest peaks, deep valleys, glaciers etc. These mountain ranges start from Pamir Knot in the west and extend up to Purvanchal in the east. They extend over 2,500 km. They have been formed during different stages of continental drift of the Gondwanaland mass. There are three parallel ranges in the Himalayas. They are (a) The Greater Himalayas or Himadri, (b) The Lesser Himalayas or Himachal and (c) The Outer Himalayas or Siwaliks. 2. NORTH INDIAN PLAIN: The North Indian plain is also called the Gangetic plain. The total area of this plain is about 6,52,000 sq. km. This plain is situated between the Himalayan Mountains in the north and the Peninsular plateau in the south and is formed by the alluvium brought down by the rivers. The plain is very fertile and agriculture is the main occupation of the people. Many perennial rivers flow across the plain. Since the land is almost flat, it is very easy to construct irrigation canals and have inland navigation. It has excellent roads and railways, which are helpful for the establishment of many industries. -
