Sports draws us for many reasons. It keeps us healthy and fit, teaches responsibility, gives us competition, excitement, creates communities… The list is endless! Kazakhstan is no exception for a sports community. There are famous sportsmen in Kazakhstan who are the leader and star of the sport. 1 . Boxers from Kazakhstan are world renowned. They are specially successful in Olympics. Kazakhstan boxers have performed excellently well in last 3 Olympic games and have won more medals than any country except Cuba and Russia. In 1996 and 2004, two Kazakhstani boxers (Vasily Jirov in 1996 and Bakhtiyar Artayev in 2004) were recognized as the best boxers for their techniques with the Val Barker trophy, awarded to the best boxer of the tournament. Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin is the world famous Boxing Champion from Kazakhstan. In year 2013 Golovkin was ranked no. 1 by the readers of The Ring, an American Boxing Magazine. In 2003 he won gold at World Amateur Boxing Championship. In 2004 summer Olympics he won silver medal in middleweight division as an amateur. 2. Write down True or False for each statement. 1. The most popular sport in our country is rugby. 2. Kazakhstan has 14 inner soccer teams which compete for the UEFA Champions League. 3. In 2004, Kazakhstan was adopted in the UEFA as an European country participant (West Kazakhstan (Atyrau, Aktobe and part of Mangistau regions) belong to Europe geographically). 4. Boxing is the second most popular sport in Kazakhstan. Our Boxing Federation was formed in 1959 and has achieved a lot since then. 5. 2000 – At the Sydney Olympics, Kazakhstan won 2 gold and 2 silver. 6. 2004 – At the Athens Olympics, Bakhtiar Baqytjan became an Olympic champion in welterweight. 7. 2017- At the Olympics in Beijing, Bakhit Sarsekbayev became the Olympic champion in welterweight. 8. Erkebulan Shynaliev won a bronze medal in light heavyweight. 9. The third favorite sport in Kazakhstan is hockey. 10. Alexey Lutsenko’s recent victory in the World Cup 2012 inspires Kazakh people to be involved in boxing. 3.Complete the sentences with the words below. Natural and geographic data Basic geographical data: location between 45° N and 46° N as well as 74° E and 75.5° E. Fig. 1: Map of the Ili-Balkhash Basin (Imentai et al., 2015). Natural areas: The Ramsar Site Ile River Delta and South Lake Balkhash Ramsar Site comprises wetlands and meadow vegetation (the modern delta), ancient river terraces that now harbour Saxaul and Tamarx shrub vegetation, and the southern coast line of the western part of Lake Balkhash. Most ecosystem services can be attributed to the wetlands and meadow vegetation. Therefore, this study focusses on the modern delta with its wetlands and meadows. During this study, a land cover map was created through classification of Rapid Eye Satellite images from the year 2014. The land cover classes relevant for this study were: water bodies in the delta, dense reed (total vegetation more than 70%), and open reed and shrub vegetation (vegetation cover of reed 20- 70% and vegetation cover of shrubs and trees more than 70%). The land cover class dense reed was further split into submerged dense reed and non-submerged dense reed by applying a threshold to the short wave infrared channel of a Landsat satellite image from 4 April 2015.

It emphasizes the fact that physical culture and sports had a complicated history. In the pre-war period, sports were considered to serve a narrow utilitarian purpose of establishing healthy society via doing exerci- ses and training bold fighters for the bright new dawn of communism. Later, sports were perceived as one of the key components of social and political life – an effective means to increase labor productivity and bring up a stron- ger next generation. Analyzing the government actions on establishing sports infrastructure, the authors conclude that physical culture and sports in the USSR and Soviet Kazakhstan transformed into an independent area of cultural development. The conclusion states that high achievements in conventional sports were to prove the benefits of living in a socialist country to its citizens and the rest of the world. In turn, such a circumstance led to the disregard of sports peculiarities of Kazakhstan and the gradual fallback of national sports. Its formation is; explains the archaic cultural codes and their place and importance in Kazakh culture in the historical process. In the context of the transformation of the Kazakhs in 1991; explains the loss of traditional cultural elements and the developments in the modernization process with the process of adapting to today's modern sports and carrying the 'küres' to the international dimension. In addition to these, it is questioned what kind of pros and cons of the Kazakhstan state to the traditional 'global' modernization expectations. Although the study is within the scope of qualitative research method, descriptive research designs have also been used and it is limited to traditional Kazakh wrestling. The traditional wrestling "küres" of Kazakhs and every social organization where it is consumed is based on traditional resources, which are the economic life unique to it and the geographical environment that feeds this life. Since Kazakhs have long been associated with the Silk Road, it is certain that they have entered this traditional wrestling from other cultures as well.
