DavidL September 11, 2001 08:27AM Here in the newsroom we are watching CNN in horror as they replay the footage of the second plane crashing into the World Trade Center. Do any members of our virtual community live or work in the vicinity? Please let us know you're all right. Thoughts and prayers for everyone on the scene. ... Yes please! Nfm AnneM September 11, 2001 08:28AM I am in complete shock Sally G September 11, 2001 10:23AM My thoughts are with you all, we in UK just cannot believe what is going on. Words can't express the horror, the shock I feel. Sympathies to all concerned. Keep us updated on how everyone is PLEASE. Thoughts from Copenhagen Annette M September 12, 2001 05:59AM Though not a member of Your wonderful community, I have been lurking on and off for the last four Years getting an immense deal of pleasure from following the different discussions here. But in a situation like this I simply have to share my thoughts with all of You, who I seem to have become so familiar with during these years. Since I heard the dreadful news yesterday, I have been in a complete state of shock as have all other people, I have been talking to here in the centre of Copenhagen, Denmark. A mixture of horror and disbelief has overwhelmed me, and I haven't been able to sleep - I keep seeing those wretched people throwing themselves out of the windows in panic. How any human being is capable of such atrocities is beyond comprehension. In Copenhagen people gathered round the American embassy last night bringing flowers and lighting candles. At night the churches were filled with people trying to understand, what had happened. Though I am happy for those, who are safe, my thoughts are with the many, who have lost a loved one. I know this may be a bit long, but I had to share my thoughts with You - maybe also in order to keep my own sanity. The world will never be the same. Hoping You are all well Thanks for your message Mary-L September 13, 2001 11:18PM Annette M: You are so kind to send your thoughts in this terrible time. It is a source of comfort to know so many around the world are grieving with those of us here who have suffered losses. Thank God, all my family and close friends are safe, but my heart aches so much for those whose loved ones are missing. Thanks so much.. and I hope you speak up again in the future, now that you are no longer a full-time lurker! Mary I know one at least..... JulieW September 11, 2001 09:00AM and speaking as someone who has lived with these terrors in London, I hope everyone is OK. I can only second you request, David. NYC Resident Clarissa September 11, 2001 09:11AM I am fine and I hope everyone else here is okay, not to mention anyone who might be in or near the Pentagon. My dad was looking out the window and saw the explosion caused by the second plane crash, but fortunately he and my mom are far enough away to be okay. Very scary! Clarissa Both World Trade Towers have collapsed !!!! Linda September 11, 2001 09:30AM Glad you and yours are okay, Clarissa. But Oh MY GOD!! Dreadful news Kristin T September 11, 2001 09:38AM I was terrified when my brother called and told me what had happened! I don't know what to say, but my thoughts and prayers are with all the concerned. Nan, Golda, JenK, everyone--please--just say you're still here. (nfm) Laraine September 11, 2001 09:08AM It will take a while DavidL September 11, 2001 09:19AM It sounds from the news reports as if NYC is at a complete standstill; subways have stopped, phone lines jammed, cable out, etc. Let's hope and pray that all our friends are OK, but assuming that they are, I suspect that getting online will not be at the top of their priority list. It may take days for the whole thing to shake out. I'm here Nan September 11, 2001 09:26AM and I simply can't believe what I'm seeing. All of lower Manhattan is covered in a cloud of smoke. Fortunately, my brother called to alert me to the situation before I left for work. My office is in Greenwich Village...far enough away I suppose, but I'm still grateful to be home. Thanks for the concern...and thanks to Myretta for talking me into getting the cable modem. It's very hard to get calls in or out right now. Thank, God!! One less to worry about (nfm) Linda September 11, 2001 09:32AM Oh dearest Nan! No words come to mind. nfm Ann2 September 11, 2001 09:55AM Thank God, Thank God Nan and Golda Deborah Jane September 11, 2001 10:07AM I'm in Vancouver. People are beyond shocked. Crying and sobbing in the hallways, physically ill. We are all praying for you, holding you close in our hearts. Nan Laraine September 11, 2001 10:28AM I have only prayers of gratitude to know that you're safe. Thanks so much for letting us know. I love you more than I can express right now. YES Barbara September 11, 2001 11:14AM Small mercies when something of this magnitude has happened, and this cannot help but touch some people in our virtual community, but I'm SOOO relieved you are safe, Nan! Nan, so glad to know you are safe! Renate September 11, 2001 10:44AM This is beyond words. My thoughts are with the poor innocent victims and their families and friends. I send my heartfelt condolences from Germany to America: Take care all of you. Thank goodness for the cable modem. Julie P. September 11, 2001 09:38PM I only just got mine 2 weeks ago. If I didn't have it, I wouldn't have been able to let friends from around the world know I was alright because phone service is touch and go right now. Checking In Golda September 11, 2001 09:38AM I rotate between working in NYC and New Jersey so I am safe. I saw the fire in one tower of the World Trade as I drove on the NJ Turnpike, a highway that is somewhat parallel to NYC. It was ghastly, and then as I drove westward I heard about the second plane. I can't imagine the number of people who have died this morning, and the additional deaths to come. I keep writing awful thoughts and then erasing them. I'll leave it all to your own imagination until I can compose myself. There are all sorts of evil thoughts running through my head, many of them political and so censored here. {{{Golda}}} nfm Ann2 September 11, 2001 10:10AM Honey--thanks for letting us know Laraine September 11, 2001 10:26AM I've been sick with worry. Thanks for checking with us, knowing that we would be worried. Love to you! Golda! BarbaraK September 11, 2001 10:51AM After our conversation last week I thought of you immediatly! Thank goddess! Golda, so glad you're O.K. Lea September 11, 2001 10:53AM Hi Golda, It's Lea from Kentucky. So glad you're O.K. I don't visit Pemberley much these days, but just came over here today to see if you had checked in. My thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone in the New York Area. May God be with us all. Take Care, Lea So GLAD to know you and others are safe. Clare September 11, 2001 10:58AM Praying for all involved and hoping for the best for all our country and the world. Our lives have changed forever. I'm sure this is what it felt like at Pearl Harbor. Golda, I have also had to censor my thoughts. It's hard to believe that such evil exists in the world. SO relieved to hear this Barbara September 11, 2001 11:10AM I have, like so many others, been feeling physically ill about this since I heard, and worrying about you and others in NYC, Golda. So relieved you are safe. I will echo others--all NYC Pemberleans, please let us know if you are safe as soon as you can. Not much else to do but pray today :-( Golda, I'm so glad to hear you're ok. (nfm) Elizabeth Rose September 11, 2001 11:40AM Golda Karen G. September 11, 2001 12:58PM I thought of you immediately and was in such shock when I heard the news on the radio on the drive to work this morning...SO GLAD to hear your safe, and I haven't read everyone else who's checked in, like Julie P and Jen K (saw that Sansanee is okay, thank God...) It's unbelievable, and as Clare says, I can imagine this is a little like what people felt when Pearl Harbor was bombed, yet this single day of carnage is so much more devastating even - considering how many lives have been lost.
