  • History of Rocket Technology
CHAPTER 1 History of Rockets 1. 1. INTRODUCTION Action-Reaction Principle Take any technology and you always find that its practical demonstration had been realized much before the theory was established. However, you may note that the fast and effective refinement of a technology begins only after its theory, explaining the underlying basic principles, has been established. The action-reaction principle that is fundamental to jet propulsion, which includes airbreathing- as well as rocket-propulsion, was theoretically explained only in 1687 by the English scientist Sir Isaac Newton by his famous publication “Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (“Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy”). But, approximately 2100 years before this, Archytas, a Greek philosopher, mathematician, astronomer, statesman, and strategist, had demonstrated the action-reaction principle by his toy pigeon in the city of Tarentum, Fig. 1. 1. Archytas suspended on a wire his wooden pigeon that contained hot steam at an elevated pressure in its belly cavity. The other end of the wire was hooked on to the top of a tall pole. On releasing a plug, a jet of steam escaped through a hole from the rear of the pigeon to produce a thrust that made the toy pigeon fly in circles around the pole. Thus Archytas mystified and amused the citizens of Tarentum by his flying toy- pigeon and demonstrated the fundamental principle of propulsion: “every force has an equal and opposite reaction”. The second recorded-demonstration of the action-reaction principle was in the first century B.C. Hero of Alexandria, a Greek mathematician 1 and scientist, constructed a device known as aeolipile.

Born and raised in Manchester, Fury weighed just 1lb at birth after being born three months premature. His father John named him after Mike Tyson. From Irish traveller heritage, the“Gypsy King” is undefeated in 28 professional fights, winning 27 with 19 knockouts, and drawing once. His most famous victory came in 2015, when he stunned longtime champion Wladimir Klitschko to win the WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight titles. He was forced to vacate the belts because of issues with drugs, alcohol and mental health, and did not fight again for more than two years. Most thought he was done with boxing forever. Until an amazing comeback fight with Deontay Wilder in December 2018. It was an instant classic, ending in a split decision tie. Outside of the ring, Tyson Fury is a mental health ambassador. He donated his million dollar purse from the Deontay Wilder fight to the homeless. This book is dedicated to the cause of mental health awareness.

  • Statement from Classic Entertainment & Sports
STATEMENT FROM CLASSIC ENTERTAINMENT & SPORTS “Since our team at Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc., joined forces with Global Boxing Promotions in 2010, we have diligently worked together to guide Mariusz Wach to the precipice of a world heavyweight championship. We fulfilled our obligation as co-promoters, utilizing our wisdom and relationships within the sport of boxing. Under the tutelage of Classic Entertainment & Sports and Global Boxing Promotions, Wach won five consecutive bouts, rose to No. 4 in the World Boxing Council (WBC) ratings and achieved his lifelong dream Nov. 17th by challenging Wladimir Klitschko for the World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight titles. “Wach put his faith and trust in us as co-promoters to guide him to the top. In turn, we put our faith and trust in Wach and the trainers he felt most comfortable working with in preparing for the opportunity to win a world title. Wach spent four months working exclusively with his team of trainers in preparation for last month’s title bout, fully trusting their guidance and judgment under the assumption they would act within the rules and regulations set forth by boxing’s most respected governing bodies. “Without the benefit of any direct involvement in Wach’s training camp, we held Wach’s trainers to the same strict code of conduct and ethics we expect from all of our fighters, trainers and employees. CES and Global Boxing Promotions fulfilled its obligations as Wach’s co-promoters and expected his trainers to do the same in preparation for last months’ heavyweight title bout.

In June 2011 the National Leadership Roundtable on Church Management gathered a select group of leading supporters of Catholic schools at Georgetown University for two days to provide action-oriented recommendations about Catholic schools. It was a gathering of thought leaders from a diverse set of backgrounds, deliberately crossing boundaries of fields of expertise and influence so that the problems facing Catholic schools today would receive attention from combinations of people never before gathered on behalf of Catholic schools.
