Question for written answer E-012915/2015 to the Commission Rule 130 Mara Bizzotto (ENF) Subject: Bad weather in Veneto and northern Italy - exemption from the Stability Pact for the municipalities affected and allocation of extraordinary funding On 13 and 14 September, bad weather in the Veneto region, with exceptionally heavy hailstorms, caused extensive damage to public buildings, companies, private homes and the agricultural sector. Landslides and floods have also caused major damage in northern Italy. In the province of Piacenza, a dozen municipalities were overwhelmed by the Nure stream breaking its banks, destroying a section of the provincial road No 654 and resulting in one person dying and two who are still missing. Veneto has been hard hit, especially in the provinces of Vicenza, Padua and Treviso. A tornado struck the municipalities of Cittadella, Galliera Veneta and San Martino di Lupari (Padua), in addition to those of Castelfranco Veneto, Morgano, Istrana and Quinto (Treviso). Serious damage was also recorded in the area of Bassano del Grappa, especially in the town of Rosà, while in the province of Belluno a landslide cut off provincial road No 51 in Alemagna, which runs through the valley and connects all the towns in the area. Can the Commission therefore say whether: – it intends to allocate any extra funding to support the citizens, companies and municipalities affected by this disaster; – given the need for tangible measures to repair the damaged public buildings and address the hydrogeological instability of northern Italy, it will authorise an exemption from the Stability Pact to enable municipalities and local authorities to invest resources, which have currently been frozen, in making their land safe? 1073114.EN PE 568.261 .
