Astro Logical Journal Astro Logical Journal Ian James * First half of 2015 Copyright c 2012-2015 Ian James Latitude -27.5 degrees Timezone +10 Introduction This journal almanack has astronomical information included for each day which is rarely found. Whilst diaries which feature astrological data do exist, they are based on a geocentric view. The data presented here is heliocentric, with planets (including the Earth) residing in signs as seen from the Sun. As each planet sweeps around in its orbit, it will be located day-by-day against the zodiacal background of distant stars. Traditionally, this stellar background is divided into the twelve signs (sectors), Aries through Pisces. Strangely, a heliocentric system has been consistently ignored by astrologers even after it was verified by Copernicus and lauded by Kepler centuries ago. Before them, the cosmos was considered to be centred around the Earth. And observers attributed character and influence to the zodiac signs, and to the planets themselves. If there was any validity in the astrological philosophies (already well established 4,000 years ago), then the directional signs and the planetary bodies are primary concerns. What is more, these elements do not change if we see them from the point of view of the Sun. Why regard the Sun as the centre of this system? Because it actually is. And if any entity in our immediate cosmos has the significance and power to somehow respond to, control and communicate actual physical effects across the solar system, it would be the Sun. This and many related ideas are discussed fully in the author’s book Sky Knowledge. Suffice to note that, if there is meaning to be found in the astrological positioning of planets, then a heliocentric view puts everything into a natural order for us to examine. For many of us, finding the Moon in the night sky is a challenge, let alone the planets (which are often confused with stars). It is hoped that the astronomical data as it is presented here will inform and inspire, and help us correlate our daily lives to the state of the solar system in which we live, as it really is. * Disclaimer The author accepts no responsibility for any misfortune resulting from serious decisions based on either the ideas presented in Sky Knowledge or the data given here. Where common sense does not rule, let there be at least profound understanding. About The Data For each day, there are four items of information (besides the day name and date. In the table, the locations of the seven astrological planets are given. The top row has the planet symbols, the bottom row the symbols for the signs in which they reside, as at 12:00 GMT. The slow, unseen, distant planets Uranus and Neptune are excluded. Our Moon is grouped with the planets, but her sign is necessarily geocentric. Note that the signs given here are a few degrees different from traditional Western astrology* (even after coordinate transformation), being aligned to important points of the Sun’s own orientation. Immediately below the table is the time when the Galactic Center lies at its highest in our sky. This point is the center of our Sun’s own orbit, and indirectly of immense importance to the solar system. After that are listed pairs of planets with significant angles between them, whether inline (conjunction), on opposite sides of the Sun (opposition), or at right angles (square). The Moon’s resonance measures her geocentric angle against a planet’s heliocentric angle. Tolerance is 15 degrees. If the Moon is at a significant angle with the Sun in our sky, it is noted with a symbol next to the day name. There is either a white circle for Full Moon, LQ for Last Quarter, a dark circle for New Moon, or FQ for First Quarter. • Introducing Pushya-Paksha Ayanamsa
Om Gam Ganapataye Namah Om Rishibhyo Namah Om Sree Gurubhyo Namah Introducing Pushya-paksha Ayanamsa P.V.R. Narasimha Rao December 31, 2013 (version 1) Warning : All copyrights are reserved with author. This article cannot be reproduced in any form in part or in full, without express permission from the author. Introduction The issue of ayanamsa has vexed astrologers following the sidereal system for a long time. There are many popular ayanamsas and yet there is no conclusive proof, or evidence otherwise, for any of them. An ayanamsa deduced based on Surya Siddhanta and some philosophical rationalization enabled the author to discover some objective astrological principles. It will be shared with interested scholars and students of astrology in this write-up. Several other write-ups illustrating astrological principles that work nicely with this ayanamsa will be shared at http://www.VedicAstrologer.org/articles in coming weeks, months and years. Tropical vs Sidereal Zodiacs Sun's transit through tropical zodiac brings seasons and is associated with observable phenomena. For example, entry of Sun into tropical Aries is always aligned with spring equinox (when daytime and night time are of equal duration) and Sun's entry to tropical Cancer is always aligned with summer solstice (when daytime duration reaches a maximum). Tropical zodiac is tied to seasons and can be reliably fixed based on observable phenomena. Thus, some cultures started using it in astrology. However, zodiacal signs are supposed to be aligned to nakshatras, which correspond to constellations of stars in the sky. For example, the sign of Aries should contain Aswini nakshatra, Bharani nakshatra and a part of Krittika nakshatra.

Our Lord is saluted as “nakshatra nemi” in SrI VishNu sahasra nAmam #441. He is thus recognized as the power behind the movement of the nakshatrams. VishNu purAnam salutes Him also as nakshatra nemi (2.9.2): “As He (in the form of duruvA) goes around, He makes the Sun, the Moon and the stars as well as the planets revolve in their orbits.” He is therefore not only nakshatra nemi, but also sUrya nemi and candra nemi like a nave at the center of the wheel. He supports their movements. Pursuha sUktam salutes Him as “nakshatrANi rUpam”. In Geetopanishad, He declares that among stars, He is the Moon “nakshatrANAm aham SaSi:”. The 442nd SrI VishNu sahasra nAmam takes its cue from here and salutes Him as “nakshatrI”. The Nakshatratvam of the nakshatrams is thus established by the Lord.

I had come across several pieces of research which claimed to corroborate the astronomy of the Mahabharata war. Amongst these were the research by PV Vartak, (5561BCE) a senior MBBS doctor residing in Pune who I have had the pleasure of meeting years ago in Pune, the research by Dr Narahari Achar from Memphis (3067BCE), Balakrishna and Sengupta (2449BCE) among others. I never wanted to really make a film on the subject, but nobody else was willing, partly due to the cost involved in the shooting of such a film (those were the days when digital film cameras were only just about becoming affordable) and of the course nobody wanted to take the risk of making a film which most Indian, English language, Hinduphobic channels would not show. I also had to check and see which piece of research was actually true: 5561BCCE, 3067BCE, 3139BCE, 3043BCE or indeed 1478BCE or 2449BCE among others. It took me a lot of time to go through the various pieces of research from 2004 to 2007 and eventually after taking great care to !ii exclude the wrong pieces of research, I sat down and corroborated the research on Redshift.

  • Nakshatra Mrigasira
MRIGASIRA NAKSHATRA THE SEARCHING STAR – THE STAR OF RESEARCH, INVENTION AND SPIRITUALITY MRIGASIRA NAKSHATRA COSMIC SOMA Dr. David Frawley states in “The Milky Way and the Cosmic Soma” :”The Nakshatra of Soma called Mrigashira or the antelope’s head (23 20 Taurus – 06 40 Gemini, with 0 Gemini as the central point). It is said to be the head of Prajapati or Brahma, the Creator, who also has the form of a deer or antelope. Mrigashira includes the same region as the constellation Orion, marking its upper portion. If one draws a line directly north from the three stars in the belt of Orion one comes to the star Calpella (Alpha Auriga), the star called the heart of Brahma (Brahma-hridaya) in Vedic thought (Surya Siddhanta VIII.20). This appears to be the main spiritual power point in the Vedic zodiac.” 1 Page Notes prepared b y Prof. Anthony Writer for students of Jyotisha Bharati, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan,Mumbai, Maharashtra, India MRIGASIRA NAKSHATRA THE SEARCHING STAR – THE STAR OF RESEARCH, INVENTION AND SPIRITUALITY MRIGASIRA THE CHURNING OF THE OCEAN 2 Page Notes prepared b y Prof. Anthony Writer for students of Jyotisha Bharati, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan,Mumbai, Maharashtra, India MRIGASIRA NAKSHATRA THE SEARCHING STAR – THE STAR OF RESEARCH, INVENTION AND SPIRITUALITY Mrigashira(मगशरृ ) is the correct name of the star, while Mārgashīrsha(मागशीष) is the name of the month related to Mrigashira, i.e, the month in which moon will be in conjuncture with the Mrigashira nakshatra.
