Nakshatra Mrigasira MRIGASIRA NAKSHATRA THE SEARCHING STAR – THE STAR OF RESEARCH, INVENTION AND SPIRITUALITY MRIGASIRA NAKSHATRA COSMIC SOMA Dr. David Frawley states in “The Milky Way and the Cosmic Soma” :”The Nakshatra of Soma called Mrigashira or the antelope’s head (23 20 Taurus – 06 40 Gemini, with 0 Gemini as the central point). It is said to be the head of Prajapati or Brahma, the Creator, who also has the form of a deer or antelope. Mrigashira includes the same region as the constellation Orion, marking its upper portion. If one draws a line directly north from the three stars in the belt of Orion one comes to the star Calpella (Alpha Auriga), the star called the heart of Brahma (Brahma-hridaya) in Vedic thought (Surya Siddhanta VIII.20). This appears to be the main spiritual power point in the Vedic zodiac.” 1 Page Notes prepared b y Prof. Anthony Writer for students of Jyotisha Bharati, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan,Mumbai, Maharashtra, India MRIGASIRA NAKSHATRA THE SEARCHING STAR – THE STAR OF RESEARCH, INVENTION AND SPIRITUALITY MRIGASIRA THE CHURNING OF THE OCEAN 2 Page Notes prepared b y Prof. Anthony Writer for students of Jyotisha Bharati, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan,Mumbai, Maharashtra, India MRIGASIRA NAKSHATRA THE SEARCHING STAR – THE STAR OF RESEARCH, INVENTION AND SPIRITUALITY Mrigashira(मगशरृ ) is the correct name of the star, while Mārgashīrsha(मागशीष) is the name of the month related to Mrigashira, i.e, the month in which moon will be in conjuncture with the Mrigashira nakshatra. Mrigasira Nakshatra extends from after 23°20 in Vrishabha Rasi up to 6°40 in Mithuna. Star is governed by mars and the presiding deity is Chandra. Symbol is Antelope or Deer. Rules the following parts of the body : face, chin, cheeks, larynx, palate, throat, vocal chord, arms, shoulders, thymus gland, upper ribs. Mrigashira, the initiator of Martian energy, is represented in the celestial firmament by a bright star and three not so bright stars in the consteliation of Orion. These stars are known in modern astronomy as Pi2-Orionis, Pi3-Orionis, Pi4-Orionis& Gamma-Or/nfs{Beffatrix). Bellatrix is the bright star among them, with a Visual magnitude of 1.66. It is easy to locate, as Orion is one of the most prominent and easily noticeable constellations in the night sky. Bellatrix is the bright star at the top right hand corner of Orion, while the three faint stars can be seen aligned in a bowlike formation a little away on the right hand side of Bellatrix. The ancient vedic seers however saw these stars to be forming a deer's head. 27 Nakshatras at a glance ©2006 Astrosalon p/l : “Mrgasira (Mrga — deer to search for; Sira — the head) means searching mind, research, etc. It represents the ideas of tracing out, a track, road, journey, etc. Mrgasira represents hunt, pursue, investigate, examine, Search or Hunt, Erotic affair, Radiant beauty, feminine attributes, maternal instincts cruelty, etc. No wonder that Mrgasira may denote greatest intellect, researchers, poets or beautiful looking persons” The word 'Mriga' represents forests, gardens, a search, a seeking to find, to roam about in forests and a hunter, to seek to blaze the trail, a guide and preceptor. An erotic affair, beauty of the countenance with particular emphasis on the radiant lustre of the face, because of the Moon. To seek is the primary characteristic of the star, to discover hidden treasures after the churning of the Sea, the 'Samudra Manthan' of the Hindu Mythology, the mother, motherly conduct that is to say maternal instincts, self-sacrifice without hope of requital, etc. Mrgasira (Mrga — deer to search for; Sira — the head) means searching mind, research, etc. Mrgasira represents hunt, pursue, investigate, examine, etc. No wonder that Mrgasira may denote greatest intellect, researchers, poets or beautiful looking persons. 3 Page Notes prepared b y Prof. Anthony Writer for students of Jyotisha Bharati, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan,Mumbai, Maharashtra, India MRIGASIRA NAKSHATRA THE SEARCHING STAR – THE STAR OF RESEARCH, INVENTION AND SPIRITUALITY Chandra is the lord of the mind, so all mental attitude, good or bad, sympathies and antipathies, patience and impatience, the fidgetiness and placidity, imagination, the gift of poetry, purity, sweetness and light, physical and mental aspects, all these come within this star and when things of sweetness and light of physic as also of the mind, both derivatives from the moon, the horoscope of Rabindra Nath comes to mind. His Janma lagna was Mina with Chandra there and Vrhaspati was in Karkata rasi. Because of this yoga Rabindra Nath had something like physical translucence which was object of admiration all the world over, wherever people met. Also, at the same time his poetry enthralled the whole world. It conveys the ideas of searching for beautiful faces, visit or request a girl in marriage. People born in this nakshatra have a strong body and moderate complexion. They are sincere in their behavior towards others and expect that others should also behave in the same way. They have a good grasping power, can quickly learn new things and have a creative nature. The moon in Mrigashirsha indicates a person who is restless and nervous, and constantly searching or looking for something. They are gentle, tender and peaceful, sensual and romantic, with motherly instincts. They are always curious and so are good travellers, investigators, researchers and collectors and they make good public speakers and communicators. A person born in this Nakshatra is a sharp shooter, loved by the king and follows virtuous path. They always have financial and personal difficulties. Females born in this nakshatra like to keep themselves busy in some way after the marriage. Vast learning, likes research, high position, noble views of life, mystical are some of the traits exhibited by those born under Mrigashirsa nakshatra. In one myth, Orion boasted he would kill all the wild animals on the earth. But, the earth goddess Gaia, who was the protector of all animals, produced a gigantic scorpion, whose body was so heavily encased that Orion was unable to pierce through the armour, and was himself stung to death. His companion Artemis was greatly saddened and arranged for Orion to be immortalised among the stars. Scorpius, the scorpion, was placed on the opposite side of the sky so that Orion would never be hurt by it again. To this day, Orion is never seen in the sky at the same time as Scorpius. It consists of a humorous 24-minute show and educator’s package. The Orion Educator’s Guide is designed for Planetarians, Teachers, and parents. The information is researched, organized, and laid out so that the educator need not spend hours coming up with lesson plans or labs. This has already been accomplished by certified educators. The guide is written to alleviate the fear of space and the night sky (that many elementary and middle school teachers have) when it comes to that section of the science lesson plan. It is an excellent tool that allows the parents to be a part of the learning experience. The guide is devised in such a way that there are plenty of visuals to assist the educator and student in finding the Winter constellations.

  • A Basic Requirement for Studying the Heavens Is Determining Where In
Abasic requirement for studying the heavens is determining where in the sky things are. To specify sky positions, astronomers have developed several coordinate systems. Each uses a coordinate grid projected on to the celestial sphere, in analogy to the geographic coordinate system used on the surface of the Earth. The coordinate systems differ only in their choice of the fundamental plane, which divides the sky into two equal hemispheres along a great circle (the fundamental plane of the geographic system is the Earth's equator) . Each coordinate system is named for its choice of fundamental plane. The equatorial coordinate system is probably the most widely used celestial coordinate system. It is also the one most closely related to the geographic coordinate system, because they use the same fun damental plane and the same poles. The projection of the Earth's equator onto the celestial sphere is called the celestial equator. Similarly, projecting the geographic poles on to the celest ial sphere defines the north and south celestial poles. However, there is an important difference between the equatorial and geographic coordinate systems: the geographic system is fixed to the Earth; it rotates as the Earth does . The equatorial system is fixed to the stars, so it appears to rotate across the sky with the stars, but of course it's really the Earth rotating under the fixed sky. The latitudinal (latitude-like) angle of the equatorial system is called declination (Dec for short) . It measures the angle of an object above or below the celestial equator. The longitud inal angle is called the right ascension (RA for short).

  • Introducing Pushya-Paksha Ayanamsa
Om Gam Ganapataye Namah Om Rishibhyo Namah Om Sree Gurubhyo Namah Introducing Pushya-paksha Ayanamsa P.V.R. Narasimha Rao December 31, 2013 (version 1) Warning : All copyrights are reserved with author. This article cannot be reproduced in any form in part or in full, without express permission from the author. Introduction The issue of ayanamsa has vexed astrologers following the sidereal system for a long time. There are many popular ayanamsas and yet there is no conclusive proof, or evidence otherwise, for any of them. An ayanamsa deduced based on Surya Siddhanta and some philosophical rationalization enabled the author to discover some objective astrological principles. It will be shared with interested scholars and students of astrology in this write-up. Several other write-ups illustrating astrological principles that work nicely with this ayanamsa will be shared at http://www.VedicAstrologer.org/articles in coming weeks, months and years. Tropical vs Sidereal Zodiacs Sun's transit through tropical zodiac brings seasons and is associated with observable phenomena. For example, entry of Sun into tropical Aries is always aligned with spring equinox (when daytime and night time are of equal duration) and Sun's entry to tropical Cancer is always aligned with summer solstice (when daytime duration reaches a maximum). Tropical zodiac is tied to seasons and can be reliably fixed based on observable phenomena. Thus, some cultures started using it in astrology. However, zodiacal signs are supposed to be aligned to nakshatras, which correspond to constellations of stars in the sky. For example, the sign of Aries should contain Aswini nakshatra, Bharani nakshatra and a part of Krittika nakshatra.

  • Why Do the Stars in Orion Look So Different from Each Other? Or a Comparative View of the Stars in Orion
WHY DO THE STARS IN ORION LOOK SO DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER? OR A COMPARATIVE VIEW OF THE STARS IN ORION RONALD E. MICKLE Denver, Colorado 80211 ©2000 Ronald E. Mickle ABSTRACT This paper will help explain why the stars in the Orion constellation look so different from one other by comparing nine stars. The nine stars discussed in this paper were chosen primarily for their brightness, with Chi2 Ori being the exception (see Table 1). It was chosen for both its distance from earth and luminosity. The Orion constellation measures 594 square degrees of the sky and is located on the celestial equator, close to the Milky Way, between 4 hours st right ascension (R.A.) and 6 hours R.A. Five stars are 1 magnitude (mv) th or brighter, with 15 brighter than 4 mv [Facts on File Dictionary of Astronomy, The 1994]. Table 1.
