Quinta 04/06/09 (Quinta-Feira) 10/08/09 ( 10/08/09 (Segunda-Feira Ciclo de Filmes “CAPITALISMO GÂNGSTER” PROGRAMAÇÃO 04/06/09 (Quinta(Quinta----feira)feira) QUEIMADA! Em 1845, numa ilha do Caribe que tem o nome de Queimada, desembarca um agente britânico, William Walker (Marlon Brando). Intelectualizado, bem-falante, ele fomenta na população de escravos a idéia da revolução contra os colonizadores portugueses. Encontra até a figura ideal de um líder para moldar, o estivador José Dolores (Evaristo Marquez), a quem incita a roubar um banco para financiar a rebelião. Um outro rebelde, o funcionário do hotel Teddy Sanchez (Renato Salvatori) será levado a assassinar o governador local, facilitando a tomada do poder pelos revolucionários. Uma vez no comando, o novo governo descobre os limites de seu poder. O agente Walker era, na verdade, um homem a serviço do Almirantado Britânico e de industriais açucareiros ingleses, que apenas procuravam tirar os colonizadores portugueses do caminho. Agora, os empobrecidos novos governantes descobrirão que não têm alternativa senão vender o açúcar, principal produto da ilha, aos ingleses, em condições desvantajosas. Dez anos depois, Walker e Dolores estarão de novo frente a frente, quando o segundo decide liderar uma nova revolução e o inglês volta para sufocá-la - nem que para isso tenha de queimar novamente toda a ilha e aniquilar a população, como fizeram os portugueses ali, em 1520. Os episódios de Queimada referem-se a fatos reais, ocorridos no Caribe, só que cometidos por colonizadores espanhóis.     Speaker Biographies Dr. Anthony Fauci, NIAID Director Dr. Fauci was appointed director of NIAID in 1984. He oversees an extensive portfolio of basic and applied research to prevent, diagnose, and treat established infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, respiratory infections, diarrheal diseases, tuberculosis and malaria as well as emerging diseases such as Ebola and Zika. NIAID also supports research on transplantation and immune-related illnesses, including autoimmune disorders, asthma and allergies. The NIAID budget for fiscal year 2020 is an estimated $5.9 billion. Dr. Fauci has advised six presidents on HIV/AIDS and many other domestic and global health issues. He was one of the principal architects of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a program that has saved millions of lives throughout the developing world. Dr. Fauci also is the longtime chief of the Laboratory of Immunoregulation. He has made many contributions to basic and clinical research on the pathogenesis and treatment of immune- mediated and infectious diseases. He helped pioneer the field of human immunoregulation by making important basic scientific observations that underpin the current understanding of the regulation of the human immune response. In addition, Dr. Fauci is widely recognized for delineating the precise ways that immunosuppressive agents modulate the human immune response. He developed effective therapies for formerly fatal inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases such as polyarteritis nodosa, granulomatosis with polyangiitis (formerly Wegener's granulomatosis), and lymphomatoid granulomatosis. A 1985 Stanford University Arthritis Center Survey of the American Rheumatism Association membership ranked Dr. Fauci’s work on the treatment of polyarteritis nodosa and granulomatosis with polyangiitis among the most important advances in patient management in rheumatology over the previous 20 years.

Short stories, novels, documentaries, plays, testimonial literature and films on the Mexican women at the U.S.-Mexico border are crucial to the understanding of gendered constructions at la frontera, as they formulate a metacommentary to a variety of complex issues ‘on the ground.’ That is to say, the portrayals of border women unquestionably attest to often-clashing perspectives on culture, nation, sexuality and class.
