En effet, depuis son apparition au milieu des années 1990, ce genre a fait l’objet d’un grand nombre de controverses. Il doit son statut inconfortable à sa dimension composite et bricolée, résultat de l’association de deux univers musicaux en apparence incompatibles : le heavy metal et la musique symphonique (souvent réduite à la musique savante). Savage Sinusoid
Igorrr – Savage Sinusoid (39:26, CD, Metal Blade/Sony Music, 2017) Nachdem der Demo-Release „Poisson Soluble“ (2006) sowie die selbst produzierte Scheibe „Moisissure“ mehrfach veröffentlicht wurden (zuletzt 2011 als mächtig aufgebohrte Doppel-CD) und 2010 das Album „Nostril“ als CD über Ad Noiseam, allerdings als Doppelvinyl via Aentitainment Records unter dem Namen „BaroqueCore EP“ erschien, stellte sich so etwas wie ein reguläres Releasegebaren ein und mit dem stilistischen Swingerclub „Hallelujah“ (Ad Noiseam) fand Igorrr-Kopf Gautier Serre dann auch zu deutlich runderen, homogeneren Produktionen. Das 2012er-Album ist auch fünf Jahre nach seiner Veröffentlichung noch eine Wundertüte der Musikstile, in der man immer wieder neue Gimmicks findet, weil man sie durch den Overkill an akustischen Eindrücken schlichtweg nicht wahrgenommen hat. Black Metal, Death Metal, Oper, Barockmusik, Breakcore, Dubstep, Klassik, Folklore, Flamenco, Progressive, Industrial – alles und noch viel mehr geht, alle Ideen müssen raus. Doch endlich klang alles wie aus einem Guss und stellte den Höhepunkt des Igorrr‘schen Schaffens dar. Absolut nicht zu verachten war dann auch die Mairgre EP, eine Kollaboration mit dem französischen Elektro/Breakcore-Künstler Ruby My Dear, die stilistisch perfekt beide Welten der kreativen Köpfe miteinander kollidieren ließ. Vor wenigen Monaten ließ Serre, auf dessen Mist auch schon das abgedrehte Death-Metal-Projekt Whourkr gewachsen ist, dann die Bombe platzen, dass das neue Full-Length-Album nicht mehr wie die letzten Releases via Ad Noiseam, sondern über das Majorlabel Metal Blade auf den Markt gehievt werden würde. Da stellt sich natürlich schnell die Frage, ob die künstlerische Freiheit des durchgeknallten französischen musikalischen Freigeists erhalten bleibt.

In un mercato ormai saturo di offerta musicale, oggi le eti- chette discografiche si trovano a fissare budget mediamente molto più bassi di un tempo per i propri artisti. Mantenere un’attività discografica regolare, dal lato artista, è un’attività dispendiosa in termini di tempo, risorse e soprattutto denaro. I musicisti, spesso anche quelli affermati, si trovano quindi a ricorrere ad altri lavori - noti come dayjob - per poter mantenere la propria attività artistica. Altri invece, per rincorrere la propria ambizione, scelgono strade più impervie, come il vivere costante- mente in tour evitando le spese di una vita sedentaria. Tuttavia, lo scopo comune di gran parte parte dei progetti musicali di entità medio-piccola, è quello di riuscire, se non a vivere completamente così come i suoi punti di contatto con i fan, sia potenziali che già della rendita della propria musica, quantomeno a potervisi dedica- acquisiti. È questa la sfida che ci si para davanti nel caso Destra- re part-time senza dover relegare il proprio progetto ad uno spazio ge, gruppo modern metal italiano su cui si basa questo progetto di hobbistico/post lavorativo che ne frena sostanzialmente lo svilup- tesi.

It is a music of brutality, of savage extremity in its unrelenting attack that pushes the boundaries of the extreme; it is perceived as a rebellious fad in the lives of young people; it has morphed from the stereotypical and dated connections to the miscreant, unwashed masses to the soundtrack of a new wave of metal fear-mongering in a post-Columbine world in which metal consumption took much of the blame for psychological damage to youth listeners. Fans of metal exist on the margins of society and its mainstream expectations. Metal studies, a burgeoning area of scholarship, has worked to debunk the myths of metal, exposing a strong community that offers positive impacts on listeners and fans of the genre. It has begun to expose this subculture as a place that thrives on its attempts to remain on the outside of mainstream markets despite the continued draw of capitalism, on the fringes, for those who feel no sense of belonging with the popular culture. This research proposes the idea that metal does more than provide a communal space for fans, that it creates – through brutalization – a space within popular culture where it can subvert the mainstream – the conservative cultural center that has established what is considered the acceptable and normative styles of consumption, in short, the popular and common - and offer crucial cultural critique and that this genre of music offers more than a passing fad or a means to anger or scare a conservative establishment.
