TNT's 'The Alienist' Returns with 'Angel of Darkness'

​The Alienist, Dr. Laszlo Kriezlier (Daniel Brühl), is back for season two, titled The Alienist: Angel of Darkness. Joining him are young detective Sara Howard () and New York Times reporter John Moore (Luke Evans) and this time around, the trio are investigating the kidnapping of the infant daughter of the Spanish Consular.

The investigation leads them down a path of murder and deceit as they seek the elusive killer. As in The Alienist, which is based on the best-selling book by , the series shines a light on some of the day's provocative issues, some of which still resonate today.

Besides Brühl, Fanning and Evans, the series also stars Douglas Smith (Big Little Lies) and Matthew Shear (Mistress America) as twin brothers Marcus and Lucius Isaacson; Robert Ray Wisdom (The Wire) as Cyrus; and Ted Levine (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as former NYPD Police Commissioner Thomas Byrnes. New this season are Melanie Field (Heathers) and Rosy McEwen.

The Alienist: Angel of Darkness is produced by Paramount Television Studios, with Anonymous Content's Rosalie Swedlin, showrunner Stuart Carolan, director David Caffrey, writer Alyson Feltes, Pavlina Hatoupis, Ben Rosenblatt, Eric Roth, and serving as executive producers.

The Alienist: Angel of Darkness returns to TNT on Sunday, July 19 after its premiere date was pushed up with two new episodes debuting each Sunday for four weeks.
