Eco-Schools Roadshow 2018 Following last year’s success, Leicester City Council will again be hosting a series of mini-conferences in the autumn 2018 term – book now to avoid disappointment! Wednesday 31 October 2018 Soar Valley College Friday 2 November 2018 Rushey Mead Academy Wednesday 7 November 2018 Fullhurst Community College Tuesday 13 November 2018 English Martyrs’ School Wednesday 5 December 2018 Moat Community College Each event will run from approx. 9.15am-12.30pm and will consist of a carousel of interactive and informative workshops, based on the Eco-Schools themes Why attend? • Gain a greater understanding of the • Opportunity to network with other Global Goals for Sustainable schools and learn about their Development and Eco-Schools topics environmental projects • Develop new campaigns and identify • Find out about local and national ways of promoting sustainability in school projects and how to get involved This free event is open to all registered Eco-Schools in Leicester, Primary or Secondary. Schools are invited to bring up to 15 students to attend. Further details will be provided on booking. To book your school place please email [email protected] or call 0116 454 2271 as soon as possible to confirm Workshop summary Soar Valley College Central England Earthwatch Air Quality Cooperative Rushey Mead Academy Food for Life Severn Trent Air Quality Fullhurst Community Food for Life Severn Trent Air Quality College English Martyrs School Living LMLG Severn Trent Streets/Sustrans Moat Community College LMLG Severn Trent Air Quality Workshop descriptions • Air quality – Find out about what we mean by air quality, how it is affected and what you can do to help improve air quality in and around your school grounds • Central Cooperative England - Looking at portion sizes, five a day, labelling and food waste from a retailers point of view • Earthwatch – The Earthwatch Education Team will be taking your students outdoors to explore the nature they have around them, reflecting on how they are connected to the natural world and how they can take action to protect it. They will be taking part in hands on citizen science projects to collect information about the wildlife in the school grounds, and learning how they can continue to take action for the Sustainable Development Goals in their own schools. • Food for Life - Learn how to and what to grow and cook for a school event including the wider school community. This will cover, who to invite, how to market the event and what you need to do to make it a great success. You will leave the workshop with a plan with what you can grow and cook and get ideas for how you can tie this in with enterprise activities along the way to raise funds • Leicester Masaya Link Group (LMLG) - A dynamic workshop looking at where the food we eat, the clothes we wear and the objects we use in our daily lives come from • Severn Trent - We’ll take a look at water in the world, how precious it is and how we can all do our bit to look after it. We’ll find out what happens when we flush, and how we can make sure the water system works properly • Sustrans & Living Streets - Pupils will identify the main issues families at their school experience in relation to walking and cycling to school. Pupils will then be supported to come up with practical ideas and solutions that they can take back and implement at their school. .
