WXYZ-TV & WMYD-TV Staff- I am pleased to announce that we have named Rhonda LaVelle, News Director for WXYZ-TV and WMYD-TV. Rhonda’s background combines top-ten market experience with extensive knowledge of the Detroit area. She comes to us from Houston, Texas where she has been News Director at KPRC-TV. Prior to Houston, she spent 16 years in Detroit as Executive Producer at WDIV-TV. She also worked at WNEM in Saginaw and UPN 50 in Detroit. Rhonda has earned many awards throughout her career including Emmy Awards, AP Awards, recognition from the Texas Association of Broadcasters and the prestigious Regional Murrow Award. She has covered numerous major news stories, elections, sporting championships, and historic weather events. Rhonda was born and raised in the thumb area of Michigan and graduated from Central Michigan University. She and her husband, Mark, have a 4 year old daughter, Kendall. They love attending sporting events and are huge Detroit Tigers fans. Rhonda has tremendous respect and admiration for our team and the legacy of our station and cannot wait to return home to Detroit. I'm confident that Rhonda's leadership and experience will take our stations and all of our platforms to another level while differentiating our coverage from our competition.
