Turn off the N2 at the Hluhluwe offramp. KOSI FOREST LODGE After taking the offramp, turn left towards Hluhlu- P522 P522 Eswatini we, proceeding through the town until you reach the last traffic circle. Turn left at R22/Sodwana Bay (Swaziland) R22 signpost and proceed for 0.7 km and turn right over the railway line towards Sodwana Bay/Mbazwana. (D1849) 4x4 Only turn-off to Coastal Forest Reserve Proceed for 78 km bypassing Mbazwana on the R22 Coastal road. Proceed straight through the circles following P522 Cashews the signs to “Coastal Forest Reserve”. Proceed on THONGA BEACH THONGA BEACH the R22 for another 33 km after Mbazwana (passing Elephant Lake Sibaya LODGE N2 Coast Mabibi the Mseleni turn-off) turning right onto a dirt road TO R22 (D1849) marked as “Coastal Forest Reserve” by a PONGOLA Lake Jozini Jozini brown road sign. You will see a large government sign indicating directions to Mabibi, Rocktail Bay Mbazwana etc. After 4.7km you will pass Coastal Cashews on Sodwana Bay your right-hand side. Continue on this gravel road and follow the signs to "Coastal Forest Reserve" and Mkuze iSimangaliso "Thonga Beach Lodge". It takes approximately 1 uMkhuze Game Wetland Park hour from Coastal Cashews to the lodge. There is Reserve very little cell phone signal on this road. R22 N2 FROM DURBAN Estimated travel time (5 hrs) Lake St Lucia R22 Proceed on the N2 North to Hluhluwe. Turn off the N2 at the Hluhluwe offramp. Turn right over the highway towards Hluhluwe, proceeding through RHINO RIDGE Hluhluwe SAFARI LODGE the town until you reach the last traffic circle. Turn left at R22/Sodwana Bay signpost and proceed for Indian Ocean 0.7 km and turn right over the railway line towards Sodwana Bay/Mbazwana. Proceed for 78 km bypassing Mbazwana on the R22 Hluhluwe-iMfolozi road. Proceed straight through the circles follow- Game Reserve ing the signs to “Coastal Forest Reserve”. Proceed on the R22 for 33 km after Mbazwana (passing St Lucia the Mseleni turn-off) turning right onto a dirt road Mtubatuba (D1849) marked as “Coastal Forest Reserve” by a brown road sign. You will see a large government N2 sign indicating directions to Mabibi, Rocktail Bay TO RICHARDS BAY etc. After 4.7km you will pass Coastal Cashews on your right-hand side. Continue on this gravel road and follow the signs to "Coastal Forest Reserve" and *Please note that there are many speed bumps through and after Hluhluwe, so take extra care "Thonga Beach Lodge". It takes approximately 1 when driving this road. Suggest you fill up your fuel tank in Hluhluwe as there is no fuel available hour from Coastal Cashews to the lodge. These include the declaration of “Bioregions” and the publication of “Bioregional Plans”. Bioregional plans are usually an output of a systematic spatial conservation assessment of a region. They identify areas of conservation priority, and constraints and opportunities for implementation of the plan. The precursor to a Bioregional Plan is a Biodiversity Sector Plan (BSP), which is the official reference for biodiversity priorities to be taken into account in land-use planning and decision-making by all sectors within the District Municipality. The overall aim is to avoid the loss of natural habitat in Critical Biodiversity Areas (CBAs) and prevent the degradation of Ecological Support Areas (ESAs), while encouraging sustainable development in Other Natural Areas.

    Updated: April 2011 Directions to Kosi Forest Lodge Recommended route from Johannesburg : (8 hours) Head to Piet Retief on the N2, pass through Pongola and proceed south towards Hluhluwe (approximately 113km from Pongola). Turn left into the town of Hluhluwe (approx. 4kms) and follow the instructions below " Recommended route from Durban ". *** Alternate Route from Johannesburg : Head to Piet Retief and Pongola on the N2 and proceed south towards Mkuze. Approximately 45km from Pongola and 10km before Mkuze turn left towards Jozini. On leaving Jozini take a left turn towards the “Coastal Forest Reserve and KwaNgwanase” (signposted), ensuring that you are proceeding over the Pongola dam wall. After 45km at a T-junction turn right towards “KwaNgwanase”. Proceed for another 47 km past Tembe Elephant Park towards the town of Manguzi (KwaNgwanase). Please note that this route often has cattle wandering across it, some of the signs have fallen down and so caution and slower driving speeds are necessary. Also particularly around the area of Tembe Elephant Park, the road has quite a few large potholes which have caused damage to some cars. Although this route may appear shorter in distance, it takes almost as much time as the Hluhluwe Recommended Route above, but without all the hazards! From Durban City: (5 hours) From Durban, proceed on the N2 North out of Durban bypassing Richards Bay, Empangeni and Mtubatuba and head towards the town of Hluhluwe. Turn off the N2 towards Hluhluwe, proceeding through the town until you reach the last traffic circle. Turn left towards Mbazwane/Sodwana Bay and proceed for 0.7 km and turn right again towards Sodwana Bay/Mbazwane.
