Know the Basic Striking Areas

Creativity: Weapon Kata, Student must choose a weapon and create a kata.

Everyone is creative, yet sometimes we fail to use our own creativity to the best advantage. Creative expression might result in writing a story, painting a picture, or just having a good idea. The creative person is curious, perceptive, and imaginative. Everyone has creative potential. All that is necessary is to make the effort to express them in the way that is best for them.

The key to creativity is having great ideas. The funny thing about great ideas is that sometimes, at first glance, they look ridiculous. This can frequently be a false impression. When you are brainstorming for great ideas, you should allow ideas to flow easily through the mind. Being too self-critical stifles the natural creativity present in all of us. The time to look critically at an idea comes after the initial creation phase. We need to let our ideas develop before we criticize them. When we follow this pattern, it is surprising just how original and powerful our creations can be.

Knowledge:

Knowledge is the edge we need to succeed in life. Everything we know contributes to the way we see and understand things. The more we know, the more choices we have in dealing with challenges and turning them into opportunities. Knowledge and ideas make our great civilization what it is. Knowledge is the raw material from which ideas arise. The more we know about where ideas originally came from and how traditions have evolved, the greater is our ability to make our own place in the world. The importance of continually learning and gaining new knowledge can never be overestimated. It helps us to become the controllers of our own destinies, instead of being simply followers in the footsteps of others. Knowledge is power.

Physical Fitness: Cardio Kickboxing 15 & Up

Physical fitness includes much more than just exercises. Exercise is an important ingredient to being fit and healthy, but being fit is a way of life. It requires us to know how the body works and how to train the body to perform at its best. Being fit increases our energy and stamina and our ability to concentrate, and leads to a longer, healthier life. People who are physically fit have much more energy than others do, yet they feel more relaxed and in control. They have an increased sense of well being because they feel healthy. People who are fit achieve more and are generally more positive than those who are not. Becoming physically fit and staying fit requires dedication, hard work, and persistence. The payoff is well worth the effort. Ask any good martial artist!

Black Belts who achieve their 2nd degree Black Belt are required to accumulate a total of 130 teaching classes and sponsor a new student ages 4 and above.

OBJECTIVE

To give students the opportunity to learn how to assist in conducting karate classes, this in turn will give them more insight to the Martial Arts and enable them to get more experience in order to take on a higher level of responsibility. This will also fine-tune their existing skills, ultimately enhancing the students’ confidence by expanding their knowledge through assistant teaching.

SPONSORING A NEW STUDENT

If you want to be a leader, then you must work at it. You don’t become the captain of a sports team during the first practice session. You must work hard. Go to practice. Play well in the games. Show everyone that you are a responsible leader. If you keep learning how to make the team better, then you can become a good captain. Your martial art training requires the same effort. You must go to class, practice at home and show hard work and determination before you can become a good leader. OK, O’ Great leadership team warrior, I have a challenge for you, something worthy of a person with your impressive skills; this challenge will require you to do for yourself---and for others. In a perfect world, helping yourself helps others and/or helping others helps you to help yourself.

You will need to be creative and self-motivated to succeed. You will have to put some effort into this mission but, in the end, you will be a wiser and more respected leader.

During the next thirty days I challenge you to perform the following task, hereby known as the leadership challenge.

This program is very important as it indicates how well you can motivate and educate people in your community. It also gives your instructor the opportunity to observe your teaching and communication skills.

Take a moment and think of someone special like yourself that has expressed an interest in the martial arts or someone you feel could benefit from our program. Then, explain that you would like to become their leader for thirty days. If they agree, request them to make a commitment to get together for eight (8) half hour sessions at either their home or yours and teach them the white belt curriculum, then come into Everson’s karate and test for their white belt.
