While this watch doesn’t exactly do anything to help you “get” a good night’s sleep, it does help you track “how” you slept.

This is where things got a little depressing for me. So far

BABY | SLEEP AID REVIEWS I’ve only used the watch for one full night but that was enough to see how bad my sleep pattern was. The graph showed I only had around two hours of deep sleep! No wonder I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus most mornings! And here I am blaming two children (who I can assure you had waaaay more zzz’s than me!)

Perhaps a little more exercise or better sleep routine will help me see those deep sleep hours increase? The watch definitely can help me keep accountable with that.

Set up is easy and you can select times that you want to be in bed, but it would be even better if it prompted me to Amazon Echo, $79.00 actually go to bed. I started with ‘Alexa, help me sleep’ and it played a calming thunderstorm, which can play on loop. It really helped me fall into a deep sleep quickly.

Then I tried meditation (not normally my thing), to help me get in the right headspace for bed. Given TV or my phone were not the last thing I stared at right before bed, once again I fell asleep quickly.

I also used it to sing the kids a lullaby and tell a bedtime story. They stayed in bed instead of getting up a million times and by the time it finished they went to sleep much easier. The only con was the kids fighting over what to play next!

It’s not a device I would have first thought of to help with sleep issues, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone struggling with the zzz’s. There are also a ton of different styles of Echo Dot products to suit you and your needs.

My son had always been a dream sleeper. Slept through the night his very first night on earth. He was one of those babies that you keep your mouth shut about, cause really, no one wants to hear it.

I knew it was too good to last. I had two solid years of my baby, well, sleeping like a baby, before it all went pear shaped. It was like it happened overnight One minute he was going to bed easily and I’d be giving him a hug at 6.30am, the next I was up three times a night

Bedtime is completely different But instead of being awake for an hour at a time, I go in and give him a pat and he goes straight back to sleep. But one of the biggest wins for me is bedtime. What was once an hour long physical battle just to get him to lie down is now a calm, five minute process. That blows my mind.

A friend of mine also tried it out on her stubborn three year old and had even more success.

Kate’s daughter rarely slept through, was hard to get to bed, up at sparrows, night terrors, going into their room, calling out, falling out of bed (on purpose?), she was all over the place. Literally.

Things were so bad, that a sleep consultant told her that she couldn’t help.

“Cue me crying in the shower… this was our last hope and we were gobsmacked,” Kate said.

It took six nights to work on her ‘strong-willed’ three and-a- half-year-old. And then on the seventh night, she just slept through.

“I thought it was a fluke but it just kept getting better... she wakes randomly once every two weeks now. But it’s never hard to get her back to sleep. And she’s started to ‘sleep in’. She used to be up at 5am on the dot and now it’s closer to 6.30/7. I mean... miracle.”

That’s exactly what it feels like, a miracle. Check it out for yourself and let me know how it goes. I’m crossing everything you have the same success.

Around this time, I was offered a chance to try the new Owlet Smart Monitor Duo RRP $699, which is a smart sock that monitors my baby’s heart rate and oxygen, as well as a camera monitor so I can see her while she sleeps.

It couldn’t have come at a better time, seeing as our previous solution, a security camera my husband bought on the cheap on eBay, had a feature unknown to us that actually let off an alarm in her room every time she moved. NOT CHILL.

We’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and while I initially had some concerns about the sock working underneath the many layers of onesie-sleeping bag-swaddle I’ve been putting her in during the cooler months, it’s turned out to be a dream. What it does While it’s important to note the Owlet isn’t linked to reducing SIDS, (a lot of parents assume this is the case given the way it works), what it does is give you a picture not only of your baby’s vital stats overnight but a glimpse into their sleep patterns as well.

For me, oxygen saturation is something I’m always a little bit obsessed with. My son is asthmatic, and after a trip to emergency when he was a baby that resulted in us finding out his oxygen saturation was scarily low, my fears of the same thing happening overnight with our daughter had begun to creep in.

31 ULTIMATE SLEEP GUIDE 5 reasons why your healthy baby is crying instead of sleeping

By Steph Gouin

Attention all new parents, this one’s for you.

Babies need sleep, they want sleep and they can sleep. If they aren’t sleeping, there will be a reason or reasons why and in a healthy baby, these reasons are often straight forward.

Meeting your baby’s basic needs will make them feel calm, content and loved. However, if their basic needs aren’t attended to, they will get upset and they will cry.

47 ULTIMATE SLEEP GUIDE The weighted koala that saved my sleep

By Jenna Martin

After two-and-a-half years of hellish sleepless nights, my son and I received a little, furry, marsupial miracle.

There isn’t a parent alive who doesn’t know the pain of sleep deprivation. Even if you had one of those unicorn babies who slept through from six weeks, (and if so, I hate you) you still understand the exhaustion that comes from caring for another human being, 24/7.

My son is two and a half years old. And until three weeks ago, he had never - ever - slept more than two hours in a

TODDLER | SLEEP AID REVIEWS stretch, day or night. I am also a single parent and I work full-time. There’s no one sharing the load. If he’s awake at 2am, so am I. And so I have been since June 2017. I’m not exaggerating when I say I literally do not remember what a good nights’ sleep feels like. You name it, I’ve tried it I breastfed, I formula fed and I started him on solids early, just in case hunger was the reason he was restless.

We tried white noise, dummies, comforters and I paid a sleep expert to come and stay. We tried co-sleeping and sleep training. We experimented with room temperature, essential oils, diet, and his bedclothes.

I went to sleep school for a whole week. Twice. We saw a paediatrician, an ear nose and throat specialist, a naturopath and a chiropractor. We did a sleep study. He had his adenoids out and, finally, in desperation, we tried some mild sedatives, mainly to help cure the night terrors he started having at about 18months old.

Nothing was wrong with him, but nothing made it better. He’d go to sleep (usually after a bit of a fight) and within two hours he’d be awake, screaming. I’d resettle him and like clockwork, two hours later, it’d happen again. Rinse and repeat, all night long.

And then, three weeks ago, a 1.3kg marsupial arrived on my desk at work.

By midnight, he still hadn’t stirred. I crept in to check on I was sceptical him. He’d switched position, but Gus was still by his side, As I said, I’ve tried everything, so when Neptune Weighted keeping him safe and warm.
