PR and PARKS & RECREATION STAFF REPORT PR and PARKS & RECREATION STAFF REPORT BOARD/COMMISSION: Fishers Arts & Culture Commission DATE: September 10, 2019 at 6:30 pm STAFF: Stephanie Perry, Assistant Director, Public Relations Marissa Deckert, Assistant Director, Parks & Recreation Dedication of Community Mural at AMP: At the inaugural Spark!Fishers celebration in 2018, a community mural was painted by attendees in collaboration with Big Car Collaborative. This summer, the mural was officially dedicated and mounted on the back of the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater. Art Wall at Brooks School Park: The UDO Community Art Subcommittee is recommending a management proposal to the Arts & Culture Commission for the Brooks School Art Wall. Fishers Test Kitchen at The Yard at Fishers District: Three Test Kitchen chefs have been selected and will be announced at a special event on Tuesday, September 10, prior to the Arts & Culture Commission meeting. An invitation will be sent out next week. Arts Crawl: The final Arts Crawl of the summer, presented in partnership with Fishers Arts Council, is Saturday, September 14 from 4-9 p.m. In celebration of the fifth anniversary of the event, the September Arts Crawl will be expanded from the normal model and will feature an art festival centered around the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater. Attendees can watch performances on the NPD AMP stage, shop for artworks from local and regional artists, and enjoy food and drinks from local food trucks and breweries. Local businesses throughout the Nickel Plate District will continue to participate in the event, either by hosting their own artist or performer, and/or displaying artwork by local artists for sale. Several musicians will also be stationed throughout the District to continue the street festival feel, and a complimentary event shuttle will be provided. @FishersIN Instagram Update: Earlier this year, the City rolled out a new citywide Instagram to serve as a storytelling platform for our community. Since launching in April, we have doubled our following, growing from 900 to nearly 2,000 followers. We’ve been working with community organizations and local businesses (i.e. HSE Schools, Conner Prairie, Humane Society for Hamilton County, Rita’s Italian Ice, Four Day Ray, etc.) to help to tell their story through our platform. We recently launched a new “Things to Do This Weekend” series on our Instagram Story, which highlights things to do around our community each weekend, along with our upcoming Parks & Recreation events. As we move into the fall, we’ll be looking to expand our community partnerships, launch new content series, and continue to work on expanding our following. Fall Concerts at the AMP o Recap: In addition to our Summer Concert Series, we added several successful shows featuring national (and international) up-and-coming talent. On July 20, we hosted a free concert starring Chance McCoy of Old Crow Medicine Show and Matt Heckler. On August 9, we welcomed British singer Jade Bird and Ruston Kelly—fresh off their performances at Lollapalooza— for our WTTS partnership show. On August 16, we hosted Bloomington-based funk and soul band Huckleberry Funk. Local street dance group, 31SVN Dance Academy, opened the show. The new lineup brought in a more diverse and August 30, 2019 younger demographic and engaged families in a new and dynamic way. o Coming Up: On September 20, the AMP will host Grammy Award-winning artist, Van Hunt, who has toured alongside acts such as Kanye West, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, and Mary J. Blige. Joining Van Hunt is Andy Allo, who toured with Prince in his New Power Generation and was just named by Billboard as one of the Top 4 Artists to Know in 2019. Tickets are currently on sale at NPDAmp.com for $10. Upcoming Events at a Glance o Fishers Farmers’ Market- Every Saturday, 8 a.m. until noon at the Amphitheater through October o Arts Crawl- Saturday, September 14, 4-9 p.m. around the Nickel Plate District o Boo Bash- Saturday, October 26, 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Central Green and the Amphitheater o Holiday Market- Saturdays from 9 a.m. until noon at Holland Park, November through December o Shop Fishers- Saturday, November 30 around the Nickel Plate District 8/30/19 – Fishers Arts & Cultural Commission - Page 2 of 2.

Chill, grooving instrumentals. 00:00:05 Oliver Host Hello, I’m Oliver Wang. 00:00:07 Morgan Host And I’m Morgan Rhodes. You’re listening to Heat Rocks. 00:00:10 Oliver Host Every episode we invite a guest to join us to talk about a heat rock, you know, an album filled with fire and brimstone. And today, we are headed to the sweet forever, talking about It’s Gonna Rain Again, the 1972 gospel album from The Sensational Nightingales. 00:00:25 Music Music “The Last Mile” off the album It’s Gonna Rain Again by The Sensational Nightingales. Mid-tempo upbeat gospel with a bit of a country twang. I want to rest At the closing of the day I know there’ll be joy Awaiting there for me [Music fades out as Morgan speaks] 00:00:42 Morgan Host Most music scholars will tell you that every genre has a golden age. For gospel music, that golden age was the 1950s, though the gospel quartet wasn’t discovered in the 50s. The Unique Quartette, The Dinwiddie Colored Quartet, and The Standard Quartet were some of the earliest recorded. The 1950s can be credited as a renaissance for a string of fresh talent for members of a variety of groups, brought together with the dual purpose to set at liberty those who are afflicted and to proclaim the acceptable year of the lord. The gospel quartet wasn’t just four singers.
