TODAY PROTOJE UNLEASHES "LIKE ROYALTY" FEAT. POPCAAN WATCH VIDEO: https://smarturl.it/LikeRoyalty AND ANNOUNCES DETAILS FOR HIS FORTHCOMING STUDIO ALBUM IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME VIA RCA RECORDS OUT AUGUST 28 - PRE-ORDER NOW The GRAMMY-Nominated Star Taps Koffee, Popcaan, Wiz Khalifa and Supa Dups for a Game-Changing LP [New York, NY – August 6, 2020] Protoje, one of Jamaica's most important music figures in front and behind the scenes, will return with arguably his biggest album to date. In Search of Lost Time is available for pre-order today, August 6th and will be released worldwide on August 28th via In.Digg.Nation Collective / Six Course / RCA Records. Today, he reveals the LP's latest single and video "Like Royalty'' featuring dancehall star Popcaan. His fifth studio album is on the heels of his first GRAMMY nomination for Best Reggae Album in 2019 for A Matter Of Time, his first riddim production Rock & Groove, a recent guest feature on Alicia Keys' "Underdog" remix and a major label record deal partnership with his label and artist management company In.Digg.Nation Collective and RCA Records in 2020. "Like Royalty," produced by Ziah and Winta James, tells Protoje’s story of struggle to triumph and highlights the people in his life who have helped him along the way. In addition to Popcaan, the Storm Saulter directed visual has cameos from In.Digg.Nation Collective artists’ Sevana and Lila Iké and its affiliate Jaz Elise. "The song is about letting my people know that as long as I’m healthy and strong, they have nothing to worry about,” Protoje says.

PROTOJE Press Kit 2018 www.protoje.com www.encantamusica.com/musicservices The fastest rising Jamaican star of reggae +800,000 followers Protoje's visibility has steadily increased with articles being written in major publications, and a major achievement was being named on BBC 1xtra Hot for 2015 Artist list so he was promoted across the BBC platform. Artists were selected because As Mista Jams of BBC stated "they're producing the quality music needed to become big in the next 12 months. It's a real cross section of really exciting new talent all currently on their A game." Protoje has been gaining momentum throughout the world, performing at quality venues to large audiences and will continue to tour consistently with his band The Indiggnation. They have already been booked extensively for many tours throughout 2018. Playing an important role in the organic and conscious Reggae music revival, Protoje is considered one of the main driving forces behind it. Together with his crew, InDIGGnation Collective, the vehicle he uses to bring the music directly to the people, they express beyond what would be possible with studio recordings. This dub/rock meets reggae fusion forms the signature sound and create a fitting background for equally potent lyrics. A fresh & unique approach to the reggae sound A powerful songwriter and philosophical thinker, Protoje articulates the anger of an emerging generation by re- establishing the standard for the decaying art of socially responsible, mentally stimulating lyricism. Protoje successfully released 3 Albums "The Seven Year Itch,” "The 8 Year Affair" and “Ancient Future” which spawned hits like Rasta Love ft Ky- Mani Marley, Kingston Be Wise which was featured in Grand Theft Auto, and Who Knows ft.

  • A Caribbean Taste TEXT
A Caribbean Taste of Technology: Creolization and the Ways of Making of the Dancehall Sound System Julian Henriques Technosphere Magazine, April 2017 Pre-publication draft, full text available from http://technosphere-magazine.hkw.de/p/18f097c0-0f15-11e7-be53- e1d41ebdbb0f The Caribbean has long been considered a melting pot of Old and New Worlds. Writer, director, and cultural researcher Julian Henriques looks at the Jamaican reggae dancehall sound system to explore how this street technology has found creolizing ways to prevail in the neocolonial power struggle between popular culture and Jamaica’s ruling elite Image 01: A Caribbean Taste of Technology album cover, Ariwa, 1985, artist unaccredited This article takes its name and inspiration from Mad Professor’s album A Caribbean Taste of Technology in response to the theme of this Technosphere issue.1 This makes a good place to start a discussion of creolization and technology – the dub reggae tracks of this album produced British producer Mad Professor and released in 1985, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewDTHfJqLwI So what I present here is a text and ideas version of the album as it were. The album cover artwork sets the tone. The Mad Professor himself lays back in a hammock enjoying the drink in his hand (the glass containing the entire Caribbean archipelago), the sun-soaked beach and the array the latest technological accoutrements of the era together with a selection of tropical fruits.2 The technology is evidently not a threat, but a source of pleasure; he is relaxed about it. This is the key message: in the Caribbean context new technologies are an invitation to be creative, an impulse that leads to Afrofuturism.3 This creativity is nowhere better expressed than in Jamaican music and the global influence this has in terms of sound, rhythm and phonographic performance techniques.

Lila Iké | Biography Lila Ike (pronounced Lee-lah Eye-kay) is on the brink of stardom. The 26-year-old Jamaican songbird has an edge and ease in her voice that creates an immediate gravitational pull with her listener, fusing contemporary reggae with elements of soul, hip-hop and dancehall. The free-spirited, easy-going singer has already released a handful of velvety smooth songs through In.Digg.Nation Collective, a record label and talent pool for Jamaican creatives, founded by reggae star Protoje. The ExPerience will be Lila Iké’s debut EP for Six Course/RCA Records in a new partnership with In.Digg.Nation Collective. She breathes a delicate testimony of love, infatuation, and spiritual guidance in the 7-track release out this Spring. The EP is padded with previously-released songs such as “Where I’m Coming From” and “Second Chance.” Pivoting from the singles that earned her international acclaim in 2018 and 2019, Lila Iké unveils playful seduction on “I Spy,” her first release of 2020 produced by Izy Beats (the hitmaker behind Koffee’s “Toast”). Beckoning with innocent flirtation over soft guitar licks, Lila in a sweet falsetto sings, “I spy I spy, that you see something you might like. Won’t you come over if you really mean it.” The layers to Lila are in full bloom as she opens up about the daily pressures she faces through her interaction with people and wanting peace of mind in “Solitude” — . On “Stars Align,” Lila flips the instrumental from Protoje’s “Bout Noon” into an anthem about falling in love through the metaphor of making music.

Middleton Texas Christian University f art is the engine that powers religion’s vehicle, then reggae music is the 740hp V12 underneath the hood of I the Rastafari. Not all reggae music advances this movement’s message, which may best be seen as an anticolonial theo-psychology of black somebodiness, but much reggae does, and this is because the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley OM, aka Tuff Gong, took the message as well as the medium and left the Rastafari’s track marks throughout the world.1 Scholars have been analyzing such impressions for years, certainly since the melanoma-ravaged Marley transitioned on May 11, 1981 at age 36. Marley was gone too soon.2 And although “such a man cannot be erased from the mind,” as Jamaican Prime Minister Edward Seaga said at Marley’s funeral, less sanguine critics left others thinking that Marley’s demise caused reggae music’s engine to cough, splutter, and then die.3 Commentators were somewhat justified in this initial assessment. In the two decades after Marley’s tragic death, for example, reggae music appeared to abandon its roots, taking on a more synthesized feel, leading to electronic subgenres such as 1 This is the basic thesis of Carolyn Cooper, editor, Global Reggae (Kingston, Jamaica: Canoe Press, 2012). 1 2 Editorial Dub Cover photo – Natty HiFi (Garvin Dan & Leo B) at Elder Stubbs Festival 2018) Dear Reader, Welcome to issue 28 for the month of Zebulon. Festivals big and small this month – Leo B returned to Boomtown to record their 10th anniversary and interviewed the legendary Susan Cadogan. Meanwhile the Natty HiFi crew returned to the Elder Stubbs Festival, held at Rymers Lane Allotments in Oxford for the tenth year in a row and Dan-I reached Notting Hill Carnival once again. Tune in for reports from the One Love Festival next month. We finally interview one of our own writers this month, giving Steve Mosco his due respect as founder of the Jah Warrior sound and label, as well as the pioneering online reggaemusicstore. I also get to review my teenage heroes Fishbone who came on a brief tour to the UK, now busy supporting the revitalized Toots and the Maytals (who play in Oxford on Saturday 13th October at the O2) and George Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic on some of their US dates. We have a new column by the founder of The Dub, Natty Mark Samuels, who brings us African Herbsman, which this month gives us advice from the motherland about herbs for the treatment of asthma. We also have our regular Cornerstone and From The Roots Up columns.
