5. 17.01.2021 Mrs. Sowmya Puthran, Clinical Psychologist, received appreciation for participating in a workshop on “Play therapy” organized by Psychoshiksha.

6. 20.01.2021 Department of under the guidance of Dr. Harishchandra B., HOD, General Surgery and Dr. Vivek Kaje, Surgical Gastroenterologist & Dr. Vijeth B. Rai, Assistant Professor, General Surgery, conducted Hands on Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy on Live Animal, in Advanced Surgical Skill Enhancement Division (ASSEND) Yenepoya Medical College. Two live animals were kept for Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. Dr. Mhaskar Zeeshan Munir and Dr. Nithin Sahadevan were chosen to perform the procedure. Dr. Austin Titus & Dr. Gautham Mohan assisted them with the procedure. Dr. Vijeth B. Rai & Dr. Vivek Kaje supported the workshop by monitoring the Post Graduates while they were performing the procedure. The workshop was also supported by Dr. Suprith Surya and Dr. Abhishek, Consultant Veterinary Surgeons, ASSEND who helped with the Anaesthesia of Pigs.

9. 09.01.2021 Guest Talk from 6pm to Online Guest talk on “Dynamic Vision” by Lt.Col.Dr. Neelam Puthran (Retd), Senior 7pm Consultant Ophthalmologist, Pune 10. 20.01.2021 Glaucoma Awareness Week to The department of in collaboration with the Medico-Social Work 22.01.2021 Department of Yenepoya Medical College conducted a 3-days awareness program for the bystanders of patients admitted to the hospital during this period.

The program objective was to increase awareness about primary open angle glaucoma among the general public. Owing to the nature of glaucoma which silently causes blindness, there is a need to create awareness among the public so that they present themselves to the ophthalmology OPD for screening for glaucoma, thereby allowing early detection of glaucoma.

Method: The team of doctors and MSW faculty along with the post-graduate students and interns gave an awareness talk on glaucoma using a PowerPoint presentation. The talk was given in Kannada and Malayalam in order to address the general public.

11. 21.01.2021 Conducted the short term hands on training Program in Laproscopy at Yen-Assend (Animal Lab) 12. 23.01.2021 & The department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy of Yenepoya Medical College 24.01.2021 under auspices of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists & Leprologists, Karnataka Branch conducted e- Dermaadvance 2021 a priming program for the Dermatology residents on 23rd and 24th January 2021. It was hosted as a virtual event using an online platform. It was a preparatory mock examination for the exam going residents. Dr M Vijaya Kumar, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya(Deemed to be University) was the chief guest for the occasion. This was a resident- participatory program involving 25 faculties and 200 delegates attended the virtual conference.

101. 10.08.2020 & The department of general surgery conducted laparoscopic skill training course for general 11.08.2020 surgery postgraduates as a part of their PG teaching curriculum under the leadership of Dr Harishchandra B, Dr Vivek Kaje and Dr Ahris V F. The training course was conducted over 24.08.2020 & a period of 2 days with one day of lecture classes involving the basics of laparoscopic 25.08.2020 equipment, instruments and basic surgical procedures by the faculties of general surgery and anaesthesia. Second day of the course provided hands on laparoscopic skill training for a total of 12 final year postgraduate students in ACTS – YEN simulation centre and ASSEND Yenepoya. This was a unique hands on course where in trainees underwent individually hand held laparoscopic skill training on, objective task modules, animal tissue models and simulation models in a graded manner along with didactic lecture classes pertaining to minimal access surgery.

The Guest lecture was conducted between 10.00 to 11.00am as scheduled with 155 participants. Dr. Muhammed Asif MSc, PhD, Embryologist and Human Anatomist from Prime Care Multispecialty Hospital, Bengaluru was the resource person. He is our PhD Alumni.The Programme was very interactive & proved to be highly educative to all the participants and they learned the basic IVF techniques which also generated more interest in students towards Clinical Anatomy. 139. October 8th 2020 World Sight Day‟ Programme conducted on 8 October 2020

As per the directives of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the National Programme for the control of blindness, the Department of Ophthalmology, Yenepoya Medical College, celebrated „the World Sight Day‟ programme.

The programme was coordinated by Dr Sheetal Savur, Additional Professor, Department of Ophthalmology.

1. Inspirational talk on „Vision Beyond Sight‟- Mr Wasim Mohammed (11 am to 12 noon) Introductory address was given by Dr Sheetal Savur. This was followed by an inspirational talk from Mr Wasim Mohammed a final student of the 2016 MBBS batch who spoke on „Vision beyond Sight‟. He addressed about the hurdles and successful achievements of blind people.

2. Awareness talk on preventive eye care by Dr Sheetal Savur As we believe that the earlier that the seeds of preventive care is sown, the more effective it will be. The pre-university college students of Yenepoya PU College were addressed on this topic from 1.45pm to 3.00pm.

The online interactive session was attended by 40 participants including teachers and the Principal. Preventive aspects of common blinding conditions like diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, trauma etc were discussed. There was a very active and interesting question and answer session following the talk. Two live animals were kept for Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. Dr. Azfar Jamal and Dr. Mohsin Islam were chosen to perform the procedure. Dr. Mhaskar Zeeshan Munir & Dr. Nithin Sahadevan assisted them with the procedure. Dr. Ahris V.F. & Dr. Vivek Kaje supported the workshop by monitoring the Post Graduates while they were performing the procedure. The workshop was also supported by Dr. Suprith Surya and Dr. Abhishek, Consultant Veterinary Surgeons, ASSEND who helped with the Anaesthesia of Pigs.

This was accompanied by hands on training in Colonoscopy, on the simulator.
