She has been de graded into the position of merely being the wife of a man. There has been no thought that she had an individuality of her own, and that she had a life of her own to live. The whole thought has beeri that her destiny was realized in being the mere satellite of a man. This conception that woman's sphere was the home, has kept her from her true sphere of usefulness. In plain words, woman has been valued only for sexual purposes. Her mission has been to satisfy the sexual de sires of her husband, and to gratify her lord's passion and to bear his children. However, after her long slumber, she is waking up. She is com ing to realize that she has another and a higher mission in life than this. She is beginning to realize that she has a soul of her own, which she must individualize to the highest possible point, and that she has a life of her own that must be lived. Her powers have been kept enchained, so that, while her will is all powerful, she has been taught to obey instead of commanding obedience on the part of man. Woman is in real ity the Alchemist of life. It is her function to transform and to create all things. Her maternal function is that of the Creatrix, Physically, Emo tionally, Psychically, Mentally and Spiritually. The welfare of the Race is absolutely dependent upon her being able to exercise this function with perfect freedom. She is the molder and the Cre atrix of the future. All new faculties are creat ed by woman. The divine potency of her sex has 6 Digitized by Goog le 6 WOMAN AND SUPER-WOMAN been trampled under foot, in order that she may satisfy the lust of man. At last she has commenced to assert herself and to demand expression for her Ego, as well as for all the powers of her feminine soul. She contains within her soul, the potencies of all possible spiritual creation and evolution. She contains within her pelvis, the latent potencies for the concrete realization of all those states. Hence, the future is inJ her hap.ds. It cannot be evolved, it mus~ be created, and she alone can create it. It must be born and woman alone can give birth to it. For this reason, woman is the only possible Savior of the race. She is not the weaker sex, she is the strong er sex. Woman is not the inferior of man; she is his superior. The future development of the race will be the work of the women, not of the men. The man of the future must be mothered, and woman is the only mother. Man is absolute ly dependent upon woman for his deliverance. Religion, philosophy and culture have gone as far as they can, without women to mother them and to bring them into the higher fields into which they are destined to enter. This book has been written for two purposes: in the first place, it is destined to call upon all women to assert their womanhood, and to come forth into the light of day and to be themselves. It calls upon every woman to give expression to all that is latent within her. To make all of her dreams come true. To make her ideals real. To live the life of her woman's soul. It is a trumpet call to women to be themselves, and to express their sexual natures on all the planes of life. It calls upon her to express the fullness of her feminine life, and to expand her maternity until all humanity are her children, and where she sees that she is the mother, who must bring forth that which is to be hereafter. In the see-- Digitized by Goog le WOMAN AND SUPER-WOMAN 7 ond place, it shows her the vision of the woman of the future, and what she will be. It calls upon all the women of this generation to set for themselves the task of bringing forth the woman of the future. It calls upon all women to bring into the world the Super-W om an, the next step in evolution beyond woman. It urges her to cease to gaze into the skies for her Savior, and to trust to herself, to her woman's soul for deliverance, not only for herself, but for all other women and for men as well. It not only holds forth this ideal, but it also indicates the path that will lead to the goal. In fact it not only urges them to this work, but tells them exactly what and how to do it. It is in fact a perfect prescription showing how Super-Women are to be produced. It is the gospel of the de liverance of woman, and of woman's self deliv erance, and self realization. In writing the book, the author has done all in his power. The task of bringing this into real ization is one for the women to perform. No one else can do it. All that the author can do is in this book to plead with woman to save herself and then save man. The time has come to act. We call upon every woman who reads the follow ing pages to consecrate herself to this Great Work. What will the answer be f Do we beseech you in vainf Will you permit another age of materialism and lust to disgrace the earth; or will you say to the men ''little boys, you have made a mess of things and have shown your in capacity long enough; we are going to run things now and straighten the kinks out a bit.'' This is the plea which we are making to you. Reform ers can do nothing. The humanity of the future requires a mother to raise it. Will the woman hood of the present generation undertake to be that mother! We await your answer. And let Digitized by Goog le 8 WOMAN AND SUPER-WOMAN that answer be in deeds not in words. That is, • let your answer be in the form of a deliberate application of the teachings here given, and by putting them into practice. In other words, start in right now to be the woman who is to bring forth the Seed that is to bruise the Head of the Serpent. What is the answer, potential mothers of the future f Hach-mactzin El Dorado Can. Heirophant of Isis. Chicago, Ill., March 5th, 1916. Digitized by Goog le DEDICATION. To that noble body of earnest women, striving night and day, for self. expression and self real ization, and ever seeking to bring into manifes tation their Dreams, Longings, Aspirations and Ideals, the potential mothers of the future, this work is reverently dedicated, with the hope that it may encourage them to strive on until all their dreams have come true, and with the further hope that in it they may find knowledge that will aid them in finding the way unto complete self expression. With affection and encouragement. THE AUTHOR. Digitized by Goog le Digitized by Goog le CHAPTER I. FEMINISM VIEWED FROM A HERMETIC STANDPOINT. The Law of Causation governs all manifesta tions of a popular nature as well as everything else, and hence the Hermetic Student sees in the Feminist Movement of the present day but the reflection of a Kosmical State, if he can but find out what that is. Therefore, it behooves us as Hermetists to discover the cause of the Femin ism of the present occasion. The Universe is not a machine, a5 many as sume, but on the contrary it is but a Sequence of Synthetic Action, a Process of Creative Evolu tion, and every event of life is but the reflection of the states of activity presented by that Creat ive Evolutionary Process. In a word, the Uni ve-rse is a Creative Principle, engendering a Formative Process, which results in a Sequence of Formative Action.

PRIDE AND SEXUAL FRIENDSHIP: THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES IN NIETZSCHE’S POST-DEMOCRATIC WORLD Lisa Fleck Uhlir Yancy, B.A., M.A. Dissertation Prepared for the Degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS August 2008 APPROVED: Steven Forde, Major Professor Ken Godwin, Committee Member Richard Ruderman, Committee Member Milan Reban, Committee Member James Meernik, Chair of the Department of Political Science Sandra L. Doctor of Philosophy (Political Science), August 2008, 191 pp., bibliography of 227 titles. This dissertation addresses an ignored [partly for its controversial nature] aspect of Nietzschean philosophy: that of the role of modern woman in the creation of a future horizon. Details of the effects of the Enlightenment, Christianity and democracy upon society are discussed, as well as effects on the individual, particularly woman. After this forward look at the changes anticipated by Nietzsche, the traditional roles of woman as the eternal feminine, wife and mother are debated. An argument for the necessity of a continuation of the battle of the sexes, and the struggle among men and women in a context of sexual love and friendship is given. This mutual affirmation must occur through the motivation of pride and not vanity. In conclusion, I argue that one possible avenue for change is a Nietzschean call for a modern revaluation of values by noble woman in conjugation with her warrior scholar to bring about the elevation of mankind.

  • A Fire Bell in the Night! 1
A Fire Bell in the Night! 1 The black whip whistled through the air and slashed the naked back with such force that it sent out a spray of blood. The victim's body arched taut, her wrists straining at the thongs that bound her to the post. But not a sound passed her lips. Furious, her mistress, standing beside the overseer, whispered for him to make her beg for mercy, for by her silence, her personal slave was wining again. The overseer scarcely bothered to acknowledge the request. She would cry out soon enough; he had seen them try to hold back the screams before. But after four or five of his best strokes, her will would start to crumble, and she would be shrieking for mercy loud enough to be heard halfway across the county. In the meantime, as long as she was determined not to give them the satisfaction of hearing her cry out, he would enjoy the contest. He aimed his second lash lower, where she would not expect it. From long experience he had learned that slaves who had not been whipped before invariably assumed that the lightning would strike in the same place, like spanking a child, and they would steel themselves to receive a second blow directly on top of the first. So the overseer liked to surprise them. If there were to be more than a dozen or so lashes, he would open fresh wounds wherever possible. Such was his skill that he could not only make the whip either cut or merely raise welts, but he could lay a pattern of a dozen stripes without ever repeating.

  • Why No Wonder Woman?
Why No Wonder Woman? A REPORT ON THE HISTORY OF WONDER WOMAN AND A CALL TO ACTION!! Created for Wonder Woman Fans Everywhere Introduction by Jacki Zehner with Report Written by Laura Moore April 15th, 2013 Wonder Woman - p. 2 April 15th, 2013 AN INTRODUCTION AND FRAMING “The destiny of the world is determined less by battles that are lost and won than by the stories it loves and believes in” – Harold Goddard. I believe in the story of Wonder Woman. I always have. Not the literal baby being made from clay story, but the metaphorical one. I believe in a story where a woman is the hero and not the victim. I believe in a story where a woman is strong and not weak. Where a woman can fall in love with a man, but she doesnʼt need a man. Where a woman can stand on her own two feet. And above all else, I believe in a story where a woman has superpowers that she uses to help others, and yes, I believe that a woman can help save the world. “Wonder Woman was created as a distinctly feminist role model whose mission was to bring the Amazon ideals of love, peace, and sexual equality to ʻa world torn by the hatred of men.ʼ”1 While the story of Wonder Woman began back in 1941, I did not discover her until much later, and my introduction didnʼt come at the hands of comic books. Instead, when I was a little girl I used to watch the television show starring Lynda Carter, and the animated television series, Super Friends.

  • Why Wonder Woman Matters
Why Wonder Woman Matters When I was a kid, being a hero seemed like the easiest thing in the world to be- A Blue Beetle quote from the DC Comics publication The OMAC Project. Introduction The superhero is one of modern American culture’s most popular and pervasive myths. Though the primary medium, the comic book, is often derided as juvenile or material fit for illiterates the superhero narrative maintains a persistent presence in popular culture through films, television, posters and other mediums. There is a great power in the myth of the superhero. The question “Why does Wonder Woman matter?” could be answered simply. Wonder Woman matters because she is a member of this pantheon of modern American gods. Wonder Woman, along with her cohorts Batman and Superman represent societal ideals and provide colorful reminders of how powerful these ideals can be.1 This answer is compelling, but it ignores Wonder Woman’s often turbulent publication history. In contrast with titles starring Batman or Superman, Wonder Woman comic books have often sold poorly. Further, Wonder Woman does not have quite the presence that Batman and Superman both share in popular culture.2 Any other character under similar circumstances—poor sales, lack of direction and near constant revisions—would have been killed off or quietly faded into the background. Yet, Wonder Woman continues to persist as an important figure both within her comic universe and in our popular consciousness. “Why does Wonder Woman matter?” To answer this question an understanding of the superhero and their primary medium, the comic book, is required, Wonder Woman is a comic book character, and her existence in the popular consciousness largely depends on how she is presented within the conventions of the comic book superhero narrative.
