Lichfield railway station offers a rapid mainline connection to London Euston in about 1 hour and 37 minutes. East Midlands Airport and Birmingham airport are easily reached. History Until 1864 the house was known as The White House but was renamed The Dower House when Lady Gresley took up residence. She was the widow of the Reverend Sir William Nigel Gresley, the 9th Baronet, formerly the Rector of Netherseal who died in 1847. He had inherited the Baronetcy from a cousin whose widow had continued to live at Drakelow Hall for many years. More recently, Sir Stanley Clarke purchased The Dower House in 1962 and demolished the rear part of the property and added the modern extension. He also built the fine wall along the Eastern and Southern boundaries and the stables. Description The Dower House is a charming Georgian Grade II listed house which has been a fantastic family home for the current owners over the last twenty years. The House has an impressive principal façade and elegant proportions, retaining a wealth of Georgian features including an iron verandah which wraps around the house, sash windows, working shutters, original doors and handles. The property is entered via an iron pillared porch into an entrance hall which has the two principal reception rooms radiating off on either side. In particular, the drawing room has a quadruple aspect and benefits from French doors leading into the side garden, a decorative wooden fire surround with a marble hearth and open fire. The hallway leads to a light, double aspect breakfast kitchen with light units, an integrated fridge, and Neff double oven, 5 ring gas hob and space for a dishwasher. A useful pantry and a utility room sit on either side. Double doors lead out to the side garden and an outside dining and entertaining space. A sitting room/snug adjoins the breakfast room and continues into an indoor swimming pool with a cloakroom and shower room to one side. Double doors lead again to the side gardens and outside seating/dining and entertaining area. Upstairs, there are five bedrooms and three bathrooms; two of which are ensuite which are accessed from a large, light landing area which has patio doors and give lovely views over the gardens. Outside, the attractive gardens complement The Dower House perfectly and have been well maintained over the years, with strategic planning that provides colour and interest throughout the year. To the side of The Dower House is a drive with electric gates that leads down to a separate cottage which stands to the side of the property and comprises of a sitting room, kitchen, shower room and one bedroom. A double garage, car port and 6 stables are all accessible from this drive. A former tennis court is found to the rear of the gardens together with a greenhouse.
