Fortunately, Houston is a “transportation-friendly” city with many options for commuters. This guide will provide resources to assist newly appointed CPRTP trainees with navigating around MD Anderson campus and the surrounding Texas Medical Center (TMC) area. Back to top Public Transportation RideMetro, (713) 653-4000, www.RideMetro.org: Metro Bus: • METRO bus and rail is $1.25 each way. Drivers cannot provide change. • Fares are deducted from a Metro Q card or must be paid in cash in exact change. • The METRO Q Fare Card acts like a “digital wallet” and fares are automatically deducted each time you ‘tap’ the card to ride. • Q Cards be obtained at any grocery store (e.g. HEB, Randalls, or Kroger). • $5 minimum must be loaded on the card using cash, debit or credit card. For a complete list retailers visit www.ridemetro.org. Metro Rail (same rates and rules apply as Metro Bus, except the following): • Cash not accepted on the rail. Fares must be paid prior to boarding the rail. • Metro tickets can be purchased at self-serve TVM on the metro rail platform via debit, credit or cash. • Metro Q Cards can be reloaded at the TVM on the metro rail platform using debit, credit or cash. • Metro Q Cards and Single Ride Rail Tickets provide FREE transfers up to 3 hours after purchase in the same direction. The expiration time is printed on the single ride rail ticket. Bus transfers are not available when paying with cash. Tap card at rail platform. University of Texas (UT Health) Shuttle (https://www.uth.edu/shuttle/) • MD Anderson employees are allowed to ride the University of Texas (UT Health) shuttle for free between the hours of 9am and 5pm. • Upon entry, passengers must show the MD Anderson ID badge when boarding the shuttle. • Passengers without badges will not be allowed to ride. Back to top Contract Parking • To sign up for an MD Anderson parking contract, visit the Pressler Garage at 1155 Pressler (2nd floor, past front security desk), in room PGA4.2000 ([email protected], (713) 563-7275 or 3-PARK). • Office hours: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. • Must present: 1) a valid driver’s license, 2) MD Anderson employee ID badge, and 3) fellowship appointment letter. • For fellowships beginning after the 1st of the month, the parking fees for the remainder of the month will be prorated and must be paid up front via personal check. The remaining monthly parking fees will be deducted from future paychecks. • To access the contracted parking garage or lot, tap the MD Anderson ID badge on the keypad at the exit. • If an ID badge is lost or misplaced, press the call button to reach and operator and provide MD Anderson employee ID number. • Parking contracts must be terminated in-person or via telephone at the conclusion of the fellowship. Some buildings are not within walking distance and will require transportation. Many MD Anderson buildings are connected via a Skybridge which is about ½ to ¾ of a mile each way. Duncan Cancer Prevention (CPB), Mays (ACB), Pickens (PAT), The Faculty Center (FCT), Houston Main Building are all connected and accessible via the Skybridge. Access to other MD Anderson buildings such as 1MC or South Campus (SCRB) will require MD Anderson shuttle or driving. Many buildings have been renamed after distinguished donors and may be referred to by multiple names. For example, the Dan L. Duncan Family building is referred to as the “Duncan”, “CPB” or “The Cancer Prevention Building”.
