Well what a chilly start to the day but a beautiful one just the same. The meeting point at the Hyperdome was attended by fourteen beautiful cars and another four joined the cruise down to the show at Mudgeeraba.

Once the club cars where park in formation from new to old, it was all hands on deck to get the display happening with an array of banners and flags to complement the cars. Thank you to all members that help setup and pack away our display.

There was a lot of interest in our club cars from the public that never ended all day.

A thankyou goes out to a new club member Clayton Rutherford for bringing along his VN SV5000 in Racing Green what a beautiful car (Very Jealous) and also to Michael Royal with his VT Senator Thank you guys and welcome to the HSV Owners Club.

A big congratulations goes out to Adrian Knight with a win in the (Best Standard 1990 – 2016) with his 2013 HDT VE/VK Retro.

Unfortunately we didn’t pick up best club this year with that going to American Muscle Car Club and 2nd going to GC Performance Ford Club.

A great day was had by all with plenty of entertainment and lots of old, new and exotic cars on display.

8 HSV Owners Club of Qld. Inc. Magazine October 2016 HSV Owners Club of Qld. Inc. Magazine October 2016 9 Happy Laps at Lakeside Raceway 28th August 2016 The weather gods turned on a fantastic day to greet the 74 participants that joined us bright and early on Sunday morning for our second and final happy laps and breakfast for 2016. It was great to see many families come along as well as a good mix of cars.

There was plenty of conversation prior to breakfast commencing at 7.30am which continued over our bacon and eggs and morning coffee.

At 8.15am we got our normal drivers briefing and we were let loose at 8.20am for 30mins of happy lap action around the iconic and historic Lakeside raceway. As normally the case they set up some cones on back straight and on the approach to the main straight to keep speed and safety to acceptable levels as we are cruising with family on board.

All our participants had a great time and as normal our participants behaved themselves as instructed with just a couple of finger waves from the monitors required and our people responded as expected on the next lap.

Following the cruise the conversations continued and plenty lingered well past 9.30 with no one real keen to go home.

A special thank you to Andrew and Karen Roberts for photographing the event and to Andrew for posting the photos on the club website and Facebook pages the same day. A service that all participants enjoy.

From a financial perspective for both events in 2016 we managed to run the events for participation by 139 members and family at a total cost to club of $271. This is close enough to break even for me and well worth the investment. We structure the pricing to support families as best we can.

I thank all those that participated in 2016 with both outings well supported and we will be trying to get at least 3 such days in 2017 with 2 at Lakeside and 1 at QR.

Magazine October 2016 11 which had been specially developed for the and featured sequential setup with Special Interest - SS Group A SV a smaller and larger throttle body. This was fitted with a restrictor plate on the larger, secondary throttle body, which actually let less air through than the smaller throttle body. Some reports have indicated that as much as 50–60 horsepower can be gained from the removal of the restrictor plates.

The Group A SV was made as a limited run of 500 from March to November 1988, but HSV subsequently decided to make 250 more units to meet demand. However, these were slow to sell with some examples having their appearance modified by dealers in an effort to get them out of the showrooms and others sold years after their launch.

The SS Group A SV was produced in 1988 and was only available in one colour, Pan- orama Silver (named after the renowned Australian ) It was assembled at Dandenong, (Holden) and modified at Clayton, Victoria (HSV).

The car carried Holden badges because of Group A racing homologation regulations, which necessitated at least 500 road-going versions to be sold to the public.

TWR developed the famous Walkinshaw body kit that was stated to reduce drag by more than 25% over the previous SS Group A. Due to its high use of the body kit, it was nicknamed the “Plastic Pig“ and “Batmobile”.

Other, less derogatory nicknames included the “Walkinshaw” and the most common of all, “Walky” (after TWR’s chief Tom Walkinshaw)

Apart from the outrageous body kit, it became the 1st Holden V8 to be fuel injected. It also came with 4 bolt mains and twin throttle body inlet manifold. The body kit was designed to minimize drag and maximize down force. It was designed and undertook extensive wind tunnel testing by TWR in Britain.

At $47,000 it wasn’t cheap, but has held its value fairly well for a car built over a 2 de- cades ago. A Clean, low kilometer Walkinshaw’s go for $65,000-$70,000 and some with extremely low km’s for $85,000 +
