RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

2019 Master’s Research Thesis (Ongoing) – Evaluating structural vs physiological spectral indices in tracking leaf-level photosynthetic phenology and photoprotective mechanisms in savannas dominated by evergreen, semi-evergreen, and deciduous woody species.

Collaborations – 1) Construction and installation of three weather towers and an eddy covariance flux tower; 2) Comparisons of allometric biomass estimations of woody species (Ane Fortes); 3) C4 photosynthetic performance along a precipitation gradient (Nicole Havrilchak); 4) Helped mentor an undergraduate intern on a biomass decay project and in skill development

2017 Research Assistant through University of Arizona’s Biosphere 2 Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program funded by the National Science Foundation. • Examined post-fire productivity of a semi-arid savanna ecosystem by integrating leaf-level spectral vegetation indices, leaf and ecosystem level gas exchange, soil, and leaf chemistry measurements. • Measured the effects of water and nutrient limitations on productivity across the Sonoran Desert monsoon season. • Participated in separate projects including: 1) Agrivoltaics (combined farming and solar panels); and 2) microbial soil community responses to wildfires.

2017 Independent Research for capstone project at Muskingum University. • Analyzed effects of variable sunlight availability and complimentary mixed nutrient quality leaves on decomposition rates of leaf packs • Examined shredder invertebrate densities in response to changed nutrient content of leaf packs.

2015 Muskie Fellow Ornithologist Intern at Muskingum University. • Researched population distributions of threatened grassland bird species in varying vegetation structures on a reclaimed surface mine (The Wilds).

WORK EXPERIENCE 2018 – Present Research Assistant – Aided in installation of three weather towers and an eddy covariance flux tower. Helped in allometric biomass estimation research (Ane Fortes). 2018 - Present Teaching Assistant for Fundamentals of Ecology Lab. Served as the primary instructor and grader. 2017 – 2018 Head Resident Assistant for Finney Hall and Lakeside Houses at Muskingum University. • Managed a staff of six RAs, led several training sessions, and helped oversee ~250 students. 2016 Wildlife Rehabilitation Intern at Stark Parks, Massillon, OH. • Administered infant feedings, enrichment, medicine, and learned proper handling techniques. 2015 – 2017 Resident Assistant at Muskingum University. • Organized floor programs to build community. Conducted conflict resolution with residents.
