Unification of the two will effect a tremendous saving in travel time for the increasing number of alumni who are also parents and like to attend both events - and a saving in valuable class time, for one holiday allows students and professors a free day for both events, with ample time for visiting. Another innovation this year which promiseS to be a popular one is the post-game party, including supper in the Park Tower Clubroom, 57 N. Somerville. Homecoming will go on into the eve­ ning as alumni gather here to celebrate and reminisce. Homecoming and Parents' Day separately have drawn several hundred in past years, so probably more than a thousand will attend the combined program, plus many who come through the campus just to see the fraternity and sorority lawn decorations, which are artistically and ingeniously executed on elaborate scales each year. LEROY STAGGERS as the Tenth President of Morris College Friday, the Twelfth of April Two Thousand and Nineteen Eleven O’clock in the Morning Neal-Jones Fine Arts Center Sumter, South Carolina Dr. Leroy Staggers was named the tenth president of Morris College on July 1, 2018. He has been a part of the Morris College family for twenty- five years. Dr. Staggers joined the faculty of Morris College in 1993 as an Associate Professor of English and was later appointed Chairman of the Division of Religion and Humanities and Director of Faculty Development. For sixteen years, he served as Academic Dean and Professor of English. As Academic Dean, Dr. Staggers worked on all aspects of Morris College’s on-going reaffirmation of institutional accreditation, including the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Dr. Staggers remains committed to teaching. He frequently teaches English courses and enjoys working with students in the classroom, directly contributing to their intellectual growth and development. Prior to coming to Morris College, Dr. Staggers served as Vice President for Academic Affairs, Associate Professor of English, and Director of Faculty Development at Barber-Scotia College in Concord, North Carolina.     From the President Exploring. Coming Home. Making Connections. I am writing this letter in late December from the Netherlands and the home of our dear Dutch friends, George and Marja. Although I am usually on campus or traveling within the U.S. on behalf of Austin College, I am delighted to spend a few days of my first January Term having the same kind of self-expanding experiences that our students and faculty are exploring this month. Like them, I have come to Sherman, Texas, to see the world! One of the pleasures of travel is the chance to “re-understand” the meaning of home. I am delighted to find that Austin College has indeed become home to me and my family. We continue to be amazed and nourished by the warm welcome we have been offered on campus and in the Texoma region. These many kindnesses have given me so much energy for the work before us. We are moving forward, full-steam ahead, with a new vision for the long-dreamed-of science building. (You’ll read all about the IDEA Center in upcoming magazine issues.) We are engaged in strategic planning and working to develop the best alumni-student career network of any small college in the country. Also, we are in the middle of a search for a new vice president for Institutional Advancement. And our new Web site will be unveiled early in the spring, and we hope it will enable you to keep in closer touch with the campus. Being in touch is an important theme for me in 2010, so I hope you will come to visit us in person or write to me with your thoughts and ideas.
